Has Google disabled Pagerank.. NO

by

It seems that twitter is a mass of people saying that Pagerank is gone, if you have the Google toolbar installed you will see it hasn’t what Google changed was the url and 3rd party app will have to update the query from :

http://toolbarqueries.google.com/search?client=navclient-auto&features=Rank&ch=8f3b58e04&q=info:james.slaterspage.com

to

http://toolbarqueries.google.com/tbr?client=navclient-auto&features=Rank&ch=8f3b58e04&q=info:james.slaterspage.com

It looks like the change happened at about 3:45am BST this morning.

I can confirm that making the above change in my scripts has fixed it, nice one!

you would need the parameter ch which transfers a checksum for the URL to know the PR of a domain. How do I find out for my domains

Shame. This would have gone part way to ending the link buying industry I think.

Thanks for the URL, I have linked this post from my article…
Sooner or later Google will quit this service… and I wonder if this URL change has something to do with it. Will see.

Can I use this code directly on the URL of my browser? How do I edit the domain so I can check other sites? ( I keep getting a google error with a sad, sad looking robot). Many thanks!

Here’s some analysis I did this morning on distribution of TBPR on the 1st page of the results: http://www.searchrocket.co.uk/2011/10/pagerank-has-not-gone-away-not-dead/

It’s a near-useless metric, but I don’t see it going away any time soon and if it does, people will just use another equally pointless metric when buying links eg: AC Rank or Majestic’s “Authority” indicator.

Thanks David. I have always been a great fan of your as far as the internet marketing is concern.

I was really worried about the recent change in toolbar queries. Your advice has helped me to get my PR tool module of Mybacklinkchecker, back to work.

Thanks again for your valuable suggestion.

It’s not a change in URL as I’ve been using the tbr based URL for a long time, and my tool did not break.

I presume they are just discontinuing support for the old URL.

      Hi Shanram,

The ch parameter must be re-calculated for each URL, so just changing the q= parameter on its own will not work.

Has anyone noticed the change that have come with the URL update?

PR Is being updated on an individual basis.
You do not have to wait for a global update 3 or 4 times a year.

I would think that PR scoring has been added to the Caffeine update which changed the way pages were added and judged.

I also see a change in the algo regarding the application of PR to the linked page from one based on the mathematical formula to one based on relevance.

    best,
    Reg
