let’s have a quick straw poll here, If you had decided that you are going to buy a sim free HTC diamond, and someone sends you two sites to buy from both are the same price, same offer really, but one site is covered in adsense and one isn’t.
are You like me, does Adsense turn you off to the purchase ?

Yes absolutely, although if they were a premium publisher on the other hand…

Well, depends… just for example one of my clients got tons of traffic for very irrelevant keywords (somebody in comments put celebrity names and that client got traffic from google images and also some organic but all they look is just pictures).
We did clocking and put adsense to google image visitors and they monetized quite well. If user continue to browse site or come in any other way do not see adsense.
Worst of all some “watches” sites do IP based filtering so when I was in Romania I could only see page with 3 adsense blocks in the middle full MFA style page… with US based proxy page shows watch listings.

Hmmm. I think that I’d give more credibility to the company who can “support” their business without AdSense. I definitely think that it takes away from the aesthetic of your site.
If it’s OVER populated with ads, that’s a also a definite turn off, I want to see content.

agree. can’t stand adsense, it is a stain on the internet.

mainly because people abuse it. big ads plastered front n centre, content below the fold. if it is used in moderation and not in ridiculous places it can be OK.

Adsense is great when they send you a big check each month

But I agree, I would probably be put off, or it would at least put me a large way to being off (if that makes sense). Not sure if the average user would even notice though.

Dave, I think I would have to go with the guys that did not publilsh adsense.
The other company that does not publish adsense would seem more focused to me, they are concentrating on their core business which is selling.
The guys publishing adsense look desperate, trying too hard to get money from both the sales of products and also the adsense clicks.
It’s like getting approached by 2 lovely ladies, except one is terribly desperate to get some loving - Um, what’s with that? Honey, are you trying to win a bet or share something you caught, YUK!

LOL, why not make adsense a part of your business model:
The web shop says: sorry, we don’t have it in stock, but you can click on these ads to get the product!

By the time I see the adsense they already got the impressions out of me. I would be turned off more if it were poorly places on the page and it felt real intrusive.

Well if you claim to sell a product , but you put AdSense which will advertise one of your competitors naturally because of the context of the page. your business must be shitty or not real at all other wise you wouldn’t put the ad sense in the first place. it is same as you would put ad sense in your blog which will be displaying other SEO’s ad.

It turns me off unless the site has tremendous branding, which in my mind, equates to reliable, trustworthy sales. Most of the latter do not place Adsense, of course. So, to me it call comes down to reliability, and Adsense certainly can take away from it on a retail site.

I’d buy from the site without adsense.

I would be suspicious of the site with adsense.
It would not necessarily stop me buying (if there was not choice). But given the choice I would be inclined to buy from the site without adsense.7th July 2008 @ 01:27

I have content sites, they have adsense. If I had review sites/ shopping sites then there would be no adsense on them. I reckon you go for one or the other, otherwise you look unprofessional.

I never understand why some web shops make the choice to sell products AND place ads.
I can’t imagine crowding a page with AdSense being good for conversion rates. So yeah, AdSense turns me off.
