What Happened To Email Scheduling And PDF Export In Google Analytics?

by

Back in November on the Google Analytics blog they announced the release of email scheduling and PDF export for the new version of Analytics claiming that “both email scheduling and PDF export functionality will be the new interface in a few weeks.” – almost 5 months on this still isn’t the case.

There are a host of complaints on that blog post of people desperately needing this feature (myself included) with absolutely no response from Google – so what’s gone wrong? Have Google released it but forgotten to enable it on certains accounts? Does anyone reading this blog have access? The Google Analytics accounts I have access to through Bronco and personally don’t have this functionality yet.

There are people complaining about this on every single blog post, and this isn’t the only feature they’ve announced but appear to have messed up on when it came to the release:
Customize your standard reports – I’ve still not got this although it shows a photo with Email as an option aswell – perhaps it’s just those at Google that have this version?

Share your custom reports, advanced segments and dashboards – one of the first comments is a question about the four month overdue release of PDF exports and email functionality.

Refining the new Google Analytics – this includes a comment by one user called Brendan, who left caps lock on in order to raise attention to the issues – it went unheard as far as I can see.

I think Brendan speaks for all of us there.

So Google, what gives? Get it sorted…

    Hi David,

I noticed the Email and PDF export feature few days back in new GA interface. They didn’t announce about it though.

    Hi David,

I have access to both these features across all seven accounts that I administer. Assumed everyone else did too. Can only guess that they’re rolling it out gradually or as you suggest have forgotten / chosen not to enable it on certain accounts.

Interesting Tom, I’ve been looking forward to it for ages. I got my Analytics account back in 2006, but I still don’t have access – I often feel they may have missed us out!

ooh, not good. So once I finally get access it may not even work? Joy.

Lately I see it appear in different accounts for a week now. After a refresh of the browser it is gone again. Tried a quick test when it appeared and got the e-mail delivered. You cannot rely on it being there though, very frustrating.

I notice it came in a few days ago but it’s already been removed again, from what i’ve read it takes alot of time to keep the PDF exporting up to date and that they only want to get it working properly in the new version once they make the full switch.

I don’t see it on any of the 40-50 client accounts here. It’s critical to enable independent reporting, as clients are hardly going to accept screenshots, or spreadsheets where the data could have been messed around with. I believe Google when they say they won’t switch everyone over until this is available, but it’s annoying to keep having to switch back to the “Old Version” every time you sign in, as the preference for that doesn’t seem to “stick”.

Let’s just say I’ve been waiting for it, yet I’ve noticed Google hasn’t announced anything while at the same time a lot of Twitter users are announcing they’ve got it. One of the strangest rollouts Google has ever overseen.

I am yet to see it in any of the 20 or so accounts that we manage. As with everyone else, it is quite frustrating switching between old and new and when I heard that they were pushing the new version full time in a couple of weeks, well, I freaked out! Hopefully the ‘rumours’ about these features being included for the new version when it is officially live are true, though I am concerned, because as of right now they are nothing but that…

I see them both, in Standard Reporting it says “Email Beta”, next to the Export dropdown list which includes the “PDF Beta” option too.

I’ve been trying to turn off a scheduled email report which I set up in the old version, can’t find it anywhere in the new.

“Email Beta” has appeared today, it wasn’t there yesterday.

I’ve had the ability to export to PDF for about a week now but I don’t think it was available on all pages, I have to say I’m really preferring Analytics 5 over 4.

And the day after I write a blog post I get email scheduling – awesome!

Yep, here too! Seems to work fine. The PDF could do with a bit more page margin, but the charts aren’t being cut off on the right had side like on the previous version, so I’ll take that as a good trade.
