Everyone at DaveN Industries would like to congratulate the Ubuntu team on the successful launch of their new Fiesty Fawn release. The Ubuntu download can be found in the usual place.

Ubuntu Linux has always been a shining light amongst Linux distributions. One of our developers uses it full-time on his desktop and we have many linux servers running Ubuntu. Well.. our main servers run Debian but when we want more cutting-edge software we use Ubuntu. Adding software is so easy as well – just run a single command and everything is handled for you – and you thought installing software on Windows was easy. Soon it will get easier as well with Linspire’s CNR technology (Click ‘n’ Run).

We think Ubuntu is so great at Linux web hosting, we’re planning on releasing a dedicated server control panel for Ubuntu root-access servers. We really think Linux hosting is the future but we know that running your own linux machines is a big pain.

We want to fix that.

(Without becoming cPanel)

Stay tuned!

Yes I agree with you, Ubuntu is great because it makes you get things done faster.

The best thing about it is the user friendlyness.
I think even a seven year old girl or boy could install this OS, if the child clearly understands the word install.

Thank you for sharing this story with me !

I switched from XP to Ubuntu full time 3 weeks ago. And I have no desire to go back. Why would I? It’s easy, it’s powerful, and it looks good. Ok, so I had some initial troubles (finding software to do exactly what I wanted) but it’s all part of learning how to use a computer properly, not be spoonfed by Microsoft.

Not sure I would agree with the 1st poster about a kid being able to install it. I tried installing it and couldn’t, so I run it from a USB key from a site which pre-installs Ubuntu onto bootable USB keys. And it’s still faster than XP in many respects…

I don’t use ubuntu as a desktop but I use freebsd which has a pretty steep learning curve but once your past it is amazing. Bleh, this isnt a plug for freebsd, I probably wouldn’t recomend it anymore as Ubuntu is now a clear choice for beginners.

While the unix desktops have had great browsers for a long time, firefox really helps because now you can install features that those windows users like. And you can get all the great features outside of unix.

I’ve only ever used FreeBSD on the server and I didn’t like it. None of the common utilities seemed to work 100% properly as they do on Debian – I think maybe cost most of the stuff I use is primarily written and tested for Linux. Minor bugs don’t get ironed out.

FBSD does have some great features though, and I hear the X support is tight.

With you 100% Dave. I run it with a dual-screen setup and it’s great. The new release is especially nice as I now have the latest openoffice etc.

Speaking of Ubuntu, can you recommend any SEO tools that work on Ubuntu? I am looking for something like Xenu link sleuth that can go through a site and export a site map with pages found, title, description, etc in a CSV/Tab etc format.

Know of any good tools? I’m a new Ubuntu users.
    thanks!

Sorry I don’t know of any you could use but that sort of stuff tends to work really well with wine. I’m partial to a nice rosé myself.

However, we can write Linux software here, I wonder if it would be worth producing some tools for Linux users…
