The World has gone mad !
Jonathan Ross has landed himself and sex manic Russell Brand (and all round good guy) a suspension and a serious finger wagging at, over the controversy of telling Fawlty Towers star Andrew Sachs that Brand had f**cked his Granddaughter.
More than 18,000 people have complained to the BBC, this lady was on TV complaining.
To be honest I didn’t think she looked like a Russell Brand fan, but it takes all sorts.
I would like to know how many of the 18,000 complainants had actually listen to the show which was pre-recorded early in the week, I bet not even 1%. What about the people that allowed it to air? Maybe we should burn them at the stake? Apparently after the show aired there were only 2 complaints and they were for the swearing, not the prank.
OK the calls were undoubtedly piss funny if you’re a Brand fan
and in bad taste if you’re not, but the BBC’s radio program review process is to blame here. It was a pre-recorded show, they let it air but more than that on the day the show was recorded, a producer called Andrew Sachs on his mobile to ask whether they could play the recording in question.
Andrew said:”The signal was poor and I couldn’t really hear what was being played down the line to me.”, “But I asked whether they would consider allowing me to come in the following week and then the recorded segment would not have to be included.”
He said Ross had “personally delivered a letter of apology and some flowers” since the broadcast.
hmmmm didn’t I read recently that the BBC are trying to cut back on spending … £6 million a year for Ross now that’s a big saving I guess…and as for Gordon Brown getting involved I would have thought he has more important things to be focusing on right now like the state of the country the recession.

http://www.karlbrown.co.ukI’m sure this drama will only do good for wossy in the long run, if Aunty Beeb sacked him I’m sure ITV would snap him up, can you imagine how outrageous he would be on an independent channel, he’s a very funny guy.

http://www.joetheseo.comIsn’t taking the pi$$ and having some crude, brilliant wind ups part of our national heritage?
This is the evolution of comedy and good old British laughs – the one liner doesn’t cut it anymore as everyone knows the joke because of the www SO jokes and pi$$ takes have to evolve into other forms of hilarity.
Bloody ‘ell I remember the Carry On films being derided and protested about for being crude..
I still miss England and think Russell Brand and co will never go away….

http://www.here.org.ukI blogged about this yesterday, it’s complete and utter madness. They have both since been suspended and Russell has quit his radio show.

http://www.bluesnapper.comThis is utter madness! Sure, Ross and Brand made a mistake (it wasn’t even that funny) but they were clearly caught up in the moment and playing up to people’s expectations. The initial complaints to the Beeb were just a handful and grew in line with the media exposure.
It’s the BBC execs that should take the blame: it was pre-recorded and somebody took an editorial decision to TX it.
Conspiracy theory: it pushed the credit crunch off the news top slot for a while…

78 years old
Thats the official age can’t make a joke about people.
John Sachs was 78 years old thats what it said in the paper.
Here’s what Groucho Marx said at 78 years old on interview.
Interviewer “Groucho what are your plans next month”
Groucho “I am going to Paris France to accept an award, flying to washington to be a guest of the President, and then I go to the Oscars to accept a lifetime award.”
Interviewer “thats amazing”
Groucho “Yeah but you know what, I would give it all up for one more errection”

The only reason it was percieved as offensive is John is 78 and its his family.
They have apologised they tried to make a joke and it went wrong but lets be honest the girl was no angel shes cutting edge and in the long run this will boost her career.

http://www.scarletpartnership.co.ukIt’s a joke, the show was laugh out loud funny. This reminds me of the Monty Python Life of Brian saga from the late 70′s. Some people need a sense of humour transplant!

http://mightygadget.co.uk/Yeah it is bloody stupid, I do feel a bit sorry for Andrew Sachs he is an old man after all and probably doesnt appeciate offensive voicemails.
However have you seen his Granddaughter? She is in a gothic burlesque group called Satanic Sluts Extreme! I am sorry but that is just asking for lewd comments to be made! I wouldnt be suprised if it is just a publicity stunt that has gone a bit wrong.
Chis 1693 days ago
I agree with James in part, I have pity for Andrew Sachs, no Grandfather deserves to have to listen to that sort of message about his Granddaughter (no matter how slutty she may appear to be). For that reason Brand and Ross should be punished. However I think that the embarrassment of this whole episode so far has been more than enough punishment for them both without Brand having to quit his job.
The other argument that I disagree with though is whether the BBC should be more accountable than their presenters for broadcasting the call. Broadcast or not, the harm was still done, broadcasting it has mealy brought it to the attention of the public.

http://sharkseo.comTo be fair, you know it’s quite funny when it’s offended people that look like the woman in the picture.

http://www.WEBVIZ.co.ukCompletely agree with post and also Karl but the show was prerecorded so the editor is the one at fault (if anyone is). Satanic Sluts Extreme indeed. I don’t know which one she is though. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KBtsB-7fl6Y

http://wikiworldbook.comSome People find this kind of thing funny, other people don’t. I didn’t hear the stuff they broadcast, so I can’t comment on it but if thats the type of humour they were into, then they obviously were working for the wrong employer.
This is going to give them a chance to work for the right employer – I think Karl’s right – both of them are just going to get on with their careers which will be just fine without the BBC playing a part in them.

Ian, do you think then if the calls were not broadcast then Brand and Ross would have no case to answer then?
For the record I am a fan of them both, but bo not really see the humor in Jonathan Ross shouting down the phone to a man in his 70s that Russel Brand has fucked his Granddaughter. Especialy when the man is so obsesive about his own privacy – http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopics/celebritynews/3280695/Jonathan-Ross-legal-history.html

It was a joke, it went wrong, it received 2 complaints before press got hold of it.
78 years old never stopped Groucho Marx having a sense of humour why should it stop John Sachs?
John Sachs you alone have the power to stop this wicht hunt. Sometimes comedy goes too far and this was the case here.
As a comic actor I hope John Sachs calls a halt to this now. I do not believe because John Sachs is 78 he needs any special treatment. He is wise with his years not stupid or senile.
Mattrig 1692 days ago
I suppose it doesn’t really matter if it was pre-recorded or not as (as Brand says to Ross during the show) “you can’t cut that out – it’s now on his answer machine!!) ”
To my mind it is Sachs that is in the wrong here for not being in when he has a planned call….now that IS rude!
Reckon his grand-daughter is loving the attention.

All sorts of excuses from the chavs – “It’s prudes” “It’s old people” “It’s wage-envy” “It’s her fault for being a rude girl” “It’s his fault for not going on the show” Try this; It’s these two one-trick ponies’ fault for thinking this is comedy talent. And if you think I take this line because I don’t like swearing, have a listen to the hilarious “Mock the Week”, which actually contains comedians (that’s proper funny people) who go after people who deserve to be mocked.
Comedy Writer 1692 days ago
http://www.the-comedy-writer.comCubbage – you don’t get it do you? Mock the Week, and programs like it, will become less funny as the producers and editors will be ever reluctant to broadcast some of the more edgy material.
And you canay goodbye to new innovate comedy, and hello to much more Brue Forsyth and Jimmy Tarbuck style humour.
