The FBI are better at catching spam than Google
A few days ago I was over at Topsy setting up my RSS reader ( yer RSS is dead ) and I noticed :
www.davidnaylor.co.uk just got 100/100 points at webutation.org, all giddie inside I shot over there and found this :
My previous feelings of joy soon disappeared when I clicked on the first link of the most popular the “movies links” that’s when I noticed 3 things.
a) They get the same badge as ME 100% SAFE and Trustworthy
b) The thumbshot looked like a FBI page when they seize a page
c) the domain was seized in Jul 8th 2010, and the fact that people kept posting how awesome this site was or which other sites you should visit to get your spyware/malware, oops I mean Movies Online didn’t bother me. I lost faith in review sites many years ago, when I got access to some IP addresses of the people posting on there, butt that’s another story all together
what surprised me was this : ( ok It didn’t surprise me that much )

http://www.cranialborborygmus.comI tend to take web review sites where the “public” can vote with a grain of salt… and a very small grain at that.
BTW, if the FBI really is in the spam catching biz, I’ve got a boatload of spam comments from my blog that I’d like to forward to them!
Sorry your amazing “100/100 points” award wasn’t what it seemed to be.

http://www.planetbball.comThat’s very interesting – isn’t it Google’s job to catch spam? And whoever had this movie site must be a pretty good spammer. I’m sorry too that your perfect score means nothing.

I didn’t realise the FBI were doing seizures like this, I’m a little worried. Can you get in trouble for offering new movies for free? I’ve setup a huge website around this, it makes money from various online ad systems. Are they likely to come after me?

http://www.searchengineoptimisation.comI guess Google is always playing catch-up with web spam. People keep coming up with ways to spam and Google continually updates their system to copy with them. They do it to improve their search engine results not bust a criminal organisation selling cheap viagra.
I feel oddly reassured that Google isn’t the FBI.
