The end of Yahoo ?
So Yahoo is planning to cut a load of jobs to increase its own profits…hmmm and gain more focus to crucial areas. Well I think it’s a shame, surely a collective number of people working on new ideas in search and actively developing the engine has to be better than reducing jobs… but of course it’s really all about profits.
Yahoo say they want to be a starting point for consumers whilst extending other offerings such as advertising and opening up their technology.
Their areas of focus hardly seem revolutionary ? How about trying something original…

http://www.justlanded.comProductivity and results don’t always have a very tight correlation with the number of bums on seats. Especially when it comes to large organisations. If you think about some essential problems facing Yahoo!, like improving search, they only need ‘a few good men’.

http://www.assertica.co.ukYahoo do something revolutionary? Would be the first time in 10 years
For search quality they are now a poor 3rd

http://www.fireflyseo.com/services/search-engine-optimisationI certianly don’t think its the end for Yahoo, businesses hve to make cut backs sometimes and reshuffle organisational structure. Perhaps there business has far to much admin. Having working in a company for the last 2 years where a lot of redundancies have been happening I can tell you that once the redundancies have occured you are very often left with a much smaller, stronger and more effective team. I do agree that they need to do something innovative though. I get sales calles from Yahoo local all the time and it just doesn’t float my boat.

If it is the end of Yahoo, then Yahoo really need to do something innovative. Lots of companies are reduce jobs, not only Yahoo. For web search, i never use yahoo, Google is my favorite SE. I installed the google toolbar, so i can make a search without open the google.

Here’s an idea. Clean up your serps and make search a better experience for the users of Yahoo. This will retain current users, bring in new users and save the jobs and futures of those overpaid techies who call Yahoo home.
Seriously, have you seen some of the junk sites that end up on page two and three of Yahoo? I know page one is where all of the action is at but please, people do dig deeper at times.

Hmm, in .nl Yahoo! is as good as dead anyway, not even 1% marketshare…

Yeah I don’t rate their search engine I’m afraid. From time to time I use them to compare results and I always go back to G. At least in Australia they don’t deliver any real traffic which tells me something.

I have never had a potential client ask me to rank them in yahoo. Nuff said!

http://www.finance-exchange.co.ukIt seems to be the way with big corporations who bow to their shareholders demands.

http://www.mysticliquid.comI hope Yahoo doesn’t take that long road into the sunset.

http://www.centralfloridafishingreport.comIn terms of deliverability they still push about 10x what MSN does for me, but I have noticed MSN is producing about a fourth of the amount of leads Yahoo does and at a better CPL. They have a better PPC system than Yahoo at this point and it’s only a matter of traffic volume before they drop to a solid third fiddle. Their service and system for advertisers has been weak and relatively unchanged since the Panama update (that was like 3 years ago!) and is just flatly subpar to what the advertisers expect.
What all this tells me is the point where the should be making the bulk of their revenue is one of the weakest links. Yet, the brass seems stuck on the idea that it’s their media and content that needs all the attention. Message to Yahoo: We pay your bills and we think what we pay for sucks!

http://www.jumpions.comI saw and run websites where traffic from Yahoo is about 60-70%% the traffic from Google, which is not bad at all. People are still using Yahoo in some industries and countries as far as I can tell. Maybe is just me,maybe I am wrong but Yahoo is not dead yet. And maybe they have reasons we don’t know when cutting those jobs.

http://www.goatsmilktavern.comTerry Reeves is right, now that I think of it, no one ever asks about their rankings in Yahoo. The only people that use Yahoo are people that had it set as the default when they bought their computer and couldn’t figure out how to change it and all they search for is “google”.

http://www.zealousweb.net/search-engine-optimization-india.htmyeah. If yahoo does this thing than it means that it will turn to advertising and other ways.
