Soliciting opinion: Google Website Optimizer

Hey, Rob here.
We’ve recently been toying with the idea of producing a multivariate testing tool in light of a few technical and otherwise problems with Google’s offering. In terms of conversions, it’s money for nothing.
So, does anyone have any comments, suggestions or grievances with the mutlivariate testing tools out there on the market today? If we can come up with enough support and ideas then it might be a project we’re interested in.
On that note, if we were to do anything like this and if you would like to help beta-test the new service, send me a personal E-mail and I’ll get back to you. We’ve got a window coming up in the next few days so we’ll be starting sometime after then. We’re after people with reasonably-trafficked sites that can track conversions based on visiting a specific page, such as an enquiry form or a checkout.
Thanks!
-Rob

Hey I’ve got something like this in the works already but more focused on not only tracking performance by conversion, but by other metrics to speed up testing time. Perhaps there’s somewhere we could work together.
Rob, how much traffic are you talking about when you say “a reasonably-trafficked”?
Er, a few thousand / day, not more than - say - 20,000.
Cheers.
Hi Dave,
take a look at our Maxymiser blog on the subject of mutlivariate testing, the Google tool is entry level (hence the price tag) but the fully featured offerings such as those from ourselves and our commercial-weight competitors would take a little longer to duplicate on your own. the basic code for a rudimentary multivariate test is simple but it is the self-learning continious optimisation, design of experiment and statistics side that gets complex and takes a lot of coders quite some time to create.
incidentally, our latest blog covers how web anayltics can benefit from multivariate testing please take a look over a coffee or similar - http://maxymiser.blogspot.com/2007/06/benefits-of-using-web-optimisation.html
Kind regards,
Alasdair
okay, just spotted that Rob posted that one, apologies all around guys!
