Silverlight to the Masses

by

from what I can see in last nights Vista update, Microsoft added Sliverlight has an optional update. so all but one machine in the office has silverlight on it, most people just ticked the box and installed it…

I know I shouldn’t be all happy but I have wanted to see silverlight on all vista machine for a long long time.

and we also got Office 2007 service pack at 200meg hehe, so if you are wondering why the internet is going slow today :)

I guess they had to do something, the CSS implementation in their browsers was getting dangerously close to rendering the same as everyone else. If it wasn’t for this new proprietary Explorer centric technology we might have actually reached a point where web standards delivered a similar browsing experience to all users.

    I second that Terry.

Flash is extensively used in Italy, a country where substance often gets short shrift to style. Exasperated by the preponderance of Flash only websites (including the 1997ish “Skip Intro” start page, I ranted a while back with “7 reasons to avoid Flash like the plague when designing a website”. Admittedly, I focused on the Flash only case, rather than the flash as an innocent object embedded in a nice rich html wrapper scenario (a rare sighting in Italy – perhaps only in the Umbrian hills?).

I’m now in a quandary. Should I update my existing Flash rant, or should I copy it and replace “Flash” with “Silverlight”? Perhaps that might not pass duplicate content filters…. Since I’m mostly using Linux, it might be best if I remain in blissful ignorance of the whole thing.

I’m taking over/under bets on the the first Silverlight exploit. I give it three months, tops. There’s no way I’m installing it on any of my systems.
