Search Engine Reputation Management : Tele2 sucks

Seriously if you haven’t read up on it, do so, this could be one of the most costly things you could ever need to do !!

Take Joost’s Seo Blog, He was upset at Tele2, so he blogged about it,

Conclusion: Tele2 sucks

So: Tele2 SUCKS. Now I’m not the only one with trouble with Tele2, two weeks ago, thousands of tele2 customers didn’t have access to their e-mail for 2 full days. So: don’t switch to Tele2, the company that brings you small bills… and major headaches.

Now I like Joost, and he is giving Tele2 some sound advice on Search Engine Reputation Management he is giving some good advice on how to make it look natural :)

Search Engine Optimisation : A Team game

For a long long time, I have devoted my working life to getting better rankings for myself and clients, so much so I don’t even have to think about how to make a website rank, I just do it, I’m not saying it’s easy lol, but I have a good knowledge and a great team of people working with me.

The Team :

The Boss : Becky ( she runs the place, makes sure things happen when they should )

Accounts : Janet ( if you know me I don’t do money, It’s all about winning )

The Programmers : Ben, Rob and Chris ( every SEO need programmers )

The Designers : Kean and Martin ( yep CSS is important in SEO )

The Seo’s : Dave (me), Rich (Ukgimp) and Dan ( yes I don’t do it all by myself )

The Engineer : Rory ( Hardware needs looking after )

The Content Writers : Rick and Claire ( Content isn’t king But it helps )

So why the Post, we are going to start pushing more of the Teams Views out on to the Web.

TickMe - New Social Networking Site

Welcome to the Social Networking Site that will have you hooked…

Now how can I describe it…
It’s a bit like Myspace/Faceparty but with more privacy and a dating slant. It’s all very simple. Log in and “tick” someone you like the look of. They won’t know you’ve ticked them unless they tick you back and you get a mutual tick! Cut out all the nonsense and be sure that the people you’re communicating with are on the same wavelength. How refreshing!

Tick Me is not just for dating. You can also make friends, build social groups and improve on your tickability! Check out the Tick League to see who is Top of the Ticks.

I have my own profile set up so come and tick me ..

TickMe Banner

And Join the World of Search Group ;)

TickMe Banner

…and it’s on Digg now!

OK ..

The way I see the Ticks is…

a) Hey = Like Hi…mates/friends that what’s why I ticked Shoemoney, That way I can send messages if he ticks me back
b) Looking Good = Looking Good kinda like a Hot Chick Mate :)
c) Hot Stuff = lets get dirty lol :)

Search Engine Test

OK, we’ve squared this away with Matt, notice that my link is to a .co.uk, not his .com.

davidnaylor.co.uk was knocked out of MSN Live Search using a similar technique, we want to test our theory.

mattcutts.co.uk was registered by me in Matt’s name (we also got Tim Mayer) to stop people doing what we’re about to do. But that’s okay. Because we’re us. Or something. But we know that davidnaylor.co.uk is screwed in MSN Live Search. If your site is not screwed is MSN Live, we could appreciate a few links at mattcutts.co.uk - any anchortext you want, and it would be great if you could use paths that exist on Matt’s blog, such as a link to his sports post (but remember - use the .co.uk!)

And no-one tell MSN - that means you Pickles ;-)

Why an XML sitemap is BAD

This is a no brainer for me, let’s pretend I’m your SEO and I have just found out that you are using sitemaps.

Ok.. question…

Is it true that the big 4 search engines are all link based, this means that for a page to do well in a Search Engine it needs 2 things .. internal links and external links ?

So that in mind if a Search Engine can’t find a page on your site, would it not be better to go get a link or two and point it to that page, that way we know the SE has found your site by a method which it values !

I have seen too often recently, people using XML sitemaps to get pages indexed and then they just never rank, then they ask me why these pages don’t rank..

So I have to say well what pages did the search engine find to give relevancy too, if the answer is, “I don’t we use a XML sitemaps”, then how the hell do you expect me to improve what pages rank if we don’t know what pages the SE found the natural way.

In the Search Engines eyes it looks like a standalone page, an island, a doorway page. Bad internal linkage should never be a reason to use an XML sitemap, if you have indexing problems don’t make it worse by hiding the problem.

I would rather have 10 pages indexed from a 1000 page site than 1000 pages included in a index because of an XML sitemap, IMO XML sitemaps are a quick route to supplemental hell. Make your SEO’s life easier and don’t use an XML sitemap.

Google Still Cant Deal with Meta Refresh (or they are shit?)

Take a look at a pretty competitive term on Google:

online poker

Scan through and see which one stands out a little.

Got it?

VictoriasSecret.com: The Official Site of Victoria’s Secret
Victoria’s Secret - Shop the world’s most glamourous bras, sexy sleepwear, lingerie
and swimwear. Women’s fashion clothing and apparel, shoes, cosmetics, …
www.victoriassecret.com/ - 31k - 27 Jul 2005 - Cached - Similar pages

So how the hell can VS rank for that when they dont even mention the term on page. Then in the back of my mind I remember a viral game that they launched:

http://www.threadwatch.org/node/3129

Well those sneaky (or accidently sneaky) folks at VS now have a meta Refresh from the “link loved” page straight to their main page.

So what does this tell me, either Google is shit with relevancy OR they can’t handle meta refreshes.

both options are not good imho
