Google Wireless Phone

Imagine the day when you can walk into your local phone shop and literally customise a phone to your own requirements.
You can put whatever software you want on it instead of the wireless provider making that choice for you. Indeed the wireless provider doesn’t have to be set either.
If Google get their way (why shouldn’t they) they will be able to bring down the cost of voice and data connections to the internet by their immense advertising power.

The federal government next year intend to auction parts of the American airwaves and Google says it’s prepares to bid over $4.6 billion to be a player.

High levels of competition from other wireless tech companies mean Google’s battle will not be won easily. AT&T sees Google as forcing the game while Verizon thinks Google is just looking after itself.

The Federal Communication Commission will govern the auction and know well that the chosen route will dominate the future of wireless mobile phone technology.

The government are unlikely to sniff at Google’s bidding efforts and well know that this could line their pockets with over $10 billion. With rules for the auction currently being set get your popcorn and coke ready for the event.

It’s likely the restrictions will be imposed on the airwave range available but the software usage will be a free for all.

Many could see this as Google arm twisting to get what they want, others would say they are once again pushing the realms of future technology to its limits to give us more choice and better value for money.

IPhones flooding wireless LAN

Funny when I first read about the Apple Iphone and how people where having problems with ATT on the day of launch, I thought they all have Wifi enabled to that should cause a few problems for Network Admins.

Well it appears that we are starting to see problems, the network administrators at Duke University, are reporting temporarily knocking out anywhere from a dozen to 30 wireless access points at a time.

apparently it’s due to misbehaving iPhones flooding the access points with up to 18,000 address requests per second, nearly 10Mbps of bandwidth, and monopolizing the AP’s airtime.

let’s see how many seo’s in San Jose have Iphone and how the rest of us can’t get Wifi of our Laptops ..
