Seo questions and POV

Hi Dave
I’d be interested in discussing the Supplemental Index in light of the tag being removed and the effect it has on sites that are in areas that do not attract a lot of links.

I had a call last night from someone over the moon because he was no longer in sup’ hell ! Had to break the tag removal news to him.

On another note, I think the change in direction of your site is excellent – I find it now the most interesting and informative of the SEO type blogs. I know it must be time consuming for you but I believe worth it as sites like WMW etc now feel like a thing of the past.

Hi Rod, I think it makes it hard for poeple that can’t identify what is in the reall index and what’s not.

On the downside you will get some SEO’s saying that if clients can’t complain about it then we don’t have to fix it, Me I like to know what pages are Supplemental so I can fix them.. like

Search Google for Why I Love Danny Sullivan now if My page wasn’t in supplemental I would still rank for that lol.

my page in the supplemental index :

Danny Sullivan

The Top 50 Pages before this Post :
Link to Image of Top 50 results

and for good measure a link to the why I love Danny Sullivan, So before you take on a SEO to work on your site maybe you should ask can you still Identify what in Supplemental.

Dear Dave,

Is google now weighing heavily towards root level pages on old domains in the serps?

Or am I just paranoid.

P.S. Is there a Googleholics Anonymous I can join? Because I dont stop thinking about ranking in only this search engine? I need saving!

Kinda PaulK think more on the Lines of Trust, Authority and “Universal Search Signals”, your not paranoid. Googleholics Anonymous NO lol

To blog, or not to blog, that is the question; Whether one should jump on the trend of an industry related blog or not.

It seems every new comer into this industry starts with a blog that is related to this industry. Most if not all of these are train wrecks of misinformation and lost souls.

Me, I blog because I like to share and it seems a good medium to do that on. I read 100+ blogs and make to my own mind on Truth or Not, misinformation and lost souls Bloggers tend to lose their readership.

Dave you wrong about the supplementary. If you search for a phrase and it is on ex supplementary page you will get a hit.

And why do you need someone to tell you that you have balls? Don’t you know what is wrong with the page without looking under the skirt?
    :)

But for amatures and girls maybe Google can incorporate live bin page ranking in Google Webmaster Tools!!!

Or Dave, make a new tool so a Webmaster can get a proper page ranking and will know which pages are supplementary…

We can call it Dave’s supplementary detective.
http://www.supplementary.info/ I even found a domain for you, go regester it, or maybe you have a better one in mind?

We will talk about royalties later over Whisky…

    Dave,
    thanks for that, much appreciated.
The supplemental index is one of the most frustrating and problematic areas of Google for many people, it is also something very misguided I believe.
Matt won the war and convinced most don’t bother with quick spammy pages, do quality content. I believe in this as it lasts and ultimately pays dividends – certainly in my areas.
However, now I, and others I talk to, question whether it is worth spending a lot of time on a page if Google are simply going to flush it after a while.

I would like to hear more from people like Matt Cutts about what people with small websites, sole traders and small businesses etc, are meant to do !
Many areas are free from SEO, there are few if any links to be had. Those that may turn up are now mostly java scripted or nofollow thanks to the paranoia Google have created about linking to people.

Just because a site does not have a lot of links does not mean it is crap and should be flushed into the supp’s.
A SEO based blog with only 10 inbound links is obviously not going to do so well but an antiquarian book dealer could only dream of 10 decent links that pass juice.

Many people I know with sites ask me about SEO as it is now coming to the attention of people who just have websites rather than being ‘webmasters’ etc. Most of their sites now seemed doomed to me and in my area if you’re not in Google you’re not on the internet !

Sorry for the rant Dave but if you’ve got pages in, as you mention, what hope do many others have, I suppose MC would say you need more links :)
    Best

A little update on Google way of making changes.
Depending on what the change is, but if it requires to reindex all pages the changes that is implemented will be propogated to your pages after the pages are crawled whcih depends on your pages PR. If your pages are in EX supplementary the new change may not take affect, period.

For example the recent change that Google has implemented of making underscores and dashes equal will not show up right a way untill the pages have been reindexed, reindex, and reindexed…how many times is a good question.

We need to ask Matt Cutts, because he said to randfish at seomoz.org that the changes will take time to propogate…

Well Matt you made that anouncement last week and today I found a url with underscores that not equal dashes…the cache date on the url is July 30, 2007.

Which is a number of days after anouncement…

Matt how long will it take to implement the change?
I hope it is quicker than the Spam reporting that does not work, period…

Matt C stop hainging spagehti on our years..Wehn you come out with an anouncement can you be mo0re specific.

Like this is the change and it will be propogated within 96 hours…

Does that sound something that we heard before?

Or it will be like this dumb chick taken your number and saying she will call you but never does…

Is Google becoming the dumb blonde chick? All ass but no class? So Matt we are looking for your reply on this matter.

We do respect you but can you be on the level with us, and non of this I will delete your commmnets with an sql command because my Harry Poter, iPhone, and Amazon link drop fans do not like the nacked truth!!!
