TLD’s and hosting, where would you host if you wanted prominence within serps in a certain geographic area,,,? Does it make a difference. Is it just microsoft that’s focused on localisation?
Sounds like an easy answer to this one.
Search engines must put weight on hosting location and im not just talking ip address.

I’ll say the IP matter more than the Physical location, take 1&1 for example, they have servers in the UK and Germany all using German IP’s.
I’ve had clients that are hosted on the UK servers on that German IP and suck in the UK rankings but done amazing on the .de.
But then again, every days a new challenge

Hell I’ve even ranked well on the TLD alone just so that I could save bandwidth charges by hosting elsewhere. My 2p.

domain seems to over ride ip main problems I see is when you are using a non geographic domains .com .net etc 1&1 are a big problem in this regard – location of links seems to help. I have had some success in using Google webmaster tools to geotarget a site
Also location may matter for ranking as for PPC Google use speed of load so being close to the searcher in network terms is important for PPC and may in the future used for organic results if they are not already doing so.
