Search Engine Identity
With the Microsoft bid on Yahoo and Google still aquiring more and more companies will we recognise the face of search in years to come ? Microsoft are well known for selling software, will they need to change their identity to make some real headway within the search industry?
How indeed can you become a leader within search when your are late into the game ?
Google on the other hand are known primarily for search yet are going fully into online office soultions and the mobile market.

I’m using Google Docs more and more these days. I think it still has a way top go feature-wise, and the I find document imports a bit buggy, but I think it’s going to become a real solution to Office-type software in a few years.

http://infoadammoro.netI think Microsoft has already made an impression in the search industry. IMO, what Microsoft needs to do is change their identity perceived by the SEO community and let us get things going. For example, if they offered something a major engine never has offered before (i.e. algorithmic facts and such), the community may just embrace them as their new Google and begin promoting visibility on their engine as the golden goose in search marketing. Think about it, we always say you have to be number one in Google. What if we started saying that about Live?

http://www.optimisedmedia.co.uk/ppc-agency-company/Things online can change really quickly. Search will undoubtedly change so will the market leader. I bet AltaVista didn’t see Google coming. The next big thing might already be out there, or just an idea in someone’s head. It’s a great game to watch.

Google seem to have the best Algo for todays age and Yahoo and MSN just seem to be trying to catch up to that level, which leaves Google to sprint further ahead while they figure out what the big G are doing.
The search leader will change eventually, but I’m not sure if MSN and Yahoo combined will catch Google, which is a shame, I like some parts to MSN but the search sucks >.

http://www.helpinaflash.com/electricians/colorado/Hopefully the Microsoft/Yahoo company will apply more resources to search and Microsoft is not just buying traffic that they will eventually lose if they don’t get it together. The world need options and that includes search engines. Google is great but I don’t want them to be the only game in town.

http://www.roomsinscotland.com/Inverness.aspI think msn/yahoo would be stonger together but even combined they are still going to be a long way off challanging google!

http://www.avenuewebmedia.comAs Google rivals MSN Search and Yahoo! Search are distant competitors, but together they would immediately be a fit rival for Google. You also have to take into account that both MSN and Yahoo! position themselves as information portals before search engines, and they enjoy a tremendous user base that put together will be unmatched.
Search-wise, both development teams can learn from each other and exchange resources. I wouldn’t be surprised if the marriage of technologies brings about a system that produces better results than Google itself.

http://www.factoryfast.com.auIt seems to me that there is certainly a real battle going on, and there are others who have stepped in as well and are doing things that might steal a great piece of the market from under the big guns without them knowing. Adobe is certainly on the battlefield as well, and there are a few other companies I’m keeping my eye on who just are never mentioned but who are nevertheless a very sneaky bunch…
