If you are thinking about going to Pubcon in Las Vegas
it’s well worth reading what Rick Seaney had to say in his article cheap airline tickets to las vegas. I have also emailed Rick asking him to see if he can help me out with travelling to conferences, best time to buy etc..
One of my Favourites was his article on Expedia how to get the best prices from the airline by filtering the carrier.

Maybe a little low tech, but have you tried using (shock horror!) a travel agent?!?!
I use a travel management company in the UK and even with their fee I usually get a better deal than I find on expedia, travelocity, or the airlines site. Most times the ticket is more flexible too :)
Are you searching for a flight from the UK?
My cheapest flight post is a bit US-centric but it might help.
