Please Mr Scoble !!!

by

Please, please stop this madness .. you’re a bright man, a clever man, so why … jump out of the fire in to the frying pan ( uk saying )

Roberts blog was here -> http://scoble.weblogs.com/

on Sunday, November 27, 2005 he moved to here http://scobleizer.wordpress.com/

For the love of god get your own domain man !!! and stick with it .. at least then when people follow links they can find you !! you have over 29,000 links to > http://scoble.weblogs.com/ … what if weblogs.com decide that because you have stopped using it to just redirect it to the homepage ;) ( tip to weblogs) …

He knows, he knows. I and other people have told him. But unless Weblogs is going to do redirects for him, all that’s lost (and take note anyone, another reason to always start on your own domain). Meanwhile, WordPress continues to flat our refuse to let people have their own domains. Would be easy to do — just let people point the DNS to the same place. But personally, I suspect it’s in part a WordPress strategy. Promise people that it will come, but get them going as long as possible on your own domain. The more those links built up, the less they can redirect or take control of their own destiny in the future. And then again, perhaps Robert’s secretly happy. Think about it. Search for “scoble” in Google, and he now occupies the first four spots thanks to having two differnt blog locations. If he redirected, he’d only have the first two. Plus he’s got another abandoned blog, his link blog, his wife’s blog is there, his book blog. This is smart search engine publications. It crowds out anything but himself. Any of those big companies with negative sites, take note. That’s the beauty of having a blog. Do that and your corporate site, and you knock out the first four positions for yourself. Keep going, and all those who hate you get banished to the never never land of page 2. Works pretty well for Google on Google, too :)

Good suggestions for removing bad search results, Danny. Maybe that strategy should really not be labeled a “blog” but rather a “block” :)

Danny’s argument about WordPress(.com) not allowing him to just point his DNS at their servers is a bit weak.

I assume you’ve never set up WordPress yourself, Danny, but it’s very simple. Most web hosts have packages either include control panels which will do it for you, or I’m sure would do it for a nominal fee. The independence of maintaining control over his own domain would certainly be worth the cost of paying for hosting. The same thing Dave mentions as being a smart move for weblogs.com is a vulnerability for Robert over at WordPress.com.
