London SMX Experience

My first SEO conference and what a rewarding experience. It’s kind of like having an extended family of people who really know the industry. Ok, slight embarrassment on the Women in SEO post as the realisation occurred that I was out numbered. (SEO Chicks Gillian, Jane)

DaveN was not backward in introducing me to the folk “in the know”. These people all had one thing in common and that was their level of SEO experience and dedication to sharing valuable information.

Danny Sullivan (Extreme doughnut eater and provider) and Chris Sherman insured the smooth running of an event that is sure to rise in popularity.

I came away from the conference realising just how much effort everyone in the SEO community puts in and shed loads of ideas for new ventures. The main thing I brought away (apart from the hotel soap and shampoo) was that Google is not the only search engine out there. Microsoft Live Search are doing their best to make sure they are on the ball with search and their feature set is becoming more extensive on an almost daily basis.

It’s all about the Blue Link

If your adwords users you will already have noticed that you ads being displayed on Google have had the clickable area is reduced to just the Title tag

the red outline shows you where the clickable area is :
Beer

also I noticed that the Google checkout logo is still clickable :

google checkout logo

what I didn’t like here was the the checkout logo for Europc is very close the the dell link ??

Seo Acronymns & terms

Well SMX is looming. The kind of company Dave keeps is pretty smart within the SEO world. I’ve been here at Bronco for quite some time now and moved quite a way since my initial post on SEO Trainee.
However, it comes to my attention just before SMX that my SEO vocab is obviously falling short of Dave’s.
It’s all Ever flux, juice, spoofing, spamming, squidoo’s and crawl depths. Bullshit Bingo ?
I’ll be honest he’s been boasting this morning about just how many SEO phrases he knows.
Someone out there must have a new one on him? So for flux sake send some in.
The challenge is set….

Google 301 and Seomoz

Whilst in Seattle, Rand and Me where playing SEO experts and we ran across Seomoz.com being index by Google which is a 301 redirect to seomoz.org, we quickly discussed the recent server move .. blah blah and I had reckoned by the time I got home it would have gone but things are worse ..

There was 2 pages indexed before now Google site: today 45 pages !! and instead of ranking for a long tail query we found in the logs it ranks for :

seomoz

Live.com Product reviews

link to live.com search

Here is the flash video again whats amazing about this and I’m mean amazing is that all the reviews are algo driven, Live use some really kick arse tech to:

a) find the products
b) find the reviews
c) decide whether the review is Positive or Negative
d) and what categories to create

honestly I think last week i saw the future of search, the way google, yahoo and ask will follow, if history has taught me one thing, nothing stays static, people arranging dinner via Facebook, People using youtube for product launches. and then we have verticals this is the future, this is where you choose your search engine for the kind of person you are not just for relevancy because in honesty that will be secondary, What live did with the Digital Cameras search and yes even the Viagra search was awesome if they can flip the switch and show the shopping vertical and Health verticals before organic, SEO’s job just became really really different!
