Ollie and Chip’s Lemon Tree - YouTube Make Videos or Ringtones?

Well we all know that you can make your own video productions on YouTube: (Thanks Ollie and Chip)

What about a site that’s like YouTube but with the twist of ringtones? There are so many social networking sites popping up it’s difficult to keep up with the pace. Keep your eyes open for Cellware though. The business idea is great offering free ringtones but sneakily putting banner ads on the website you are using to download the tones. The other way they are advertising is to use SMS messaging when you download. The site will actively encourage people to upload their own ringtone compositions with the added advantage of gaining revenue from advertising.

What does this mean for search we ask ourselves? Major companies may well contribute there own ring tone identifier which could be used to promote their brands further. Search will at some stage be forced to focus on mobile technology, even more so than it is now.

SEO Turkey

Ok, I’m harping on again about SEO Reports my topic of the moment. A number of clients in recent weeks have required them for their new year’s SEO plans.

Having spent quite some time generating the reports DaveN looks through and explains to me some of the points need further details, in fact had I checked out the ranking deeply enough?

Id looked at the page titles and decided they needed cleaning up as they contained repeats and could be more relevant to the individual pages. I had however missed something very simple, that was the fact the sites pages ranked well for key terms already in there.

There were a number of product categories in the site which could be expanded out rather than changing existing page titles. Landing pages could be created for individual brands.

The moral of this story is check, double check and then check again. SEO reports for clients cannot be rushed, nor should they be. As SEO’s we have a responsibility to make the client’s web site perform.  Existing page ranks should be maintained if they are high enough….

I think its all to easy to get carried away in the Seo jargon and write a report that sounds good but in reality are not specific enough to the overall business objectives. Years of experience also count in these matters, as does thinking outside the box ( DAVEN)

Google Webmaster Tools

Last week I was at Google (London) with some of the Webmaster Tools Team, where we traded ideas and features. I did my normal thing of, this would be so cool… but I could also use it for evil if I wanted to….

Anyway I’m back in the office now and checking on how a site move and url restructure is going, then it came to me, how cool would it be if Google showed me :

dave sitemaps

OK the cool thing is that by Google showing me the IP address for my site, I know what data they are getting is correct and up to date ( evil : yep cloaking is working )

All I need now is the redirect data, Something like :

Anyway those are my ideas while I going though the process of redesigning a site and moving hosts.

What others would you want or need ?
