Orange Business Phone Contract
While I was away at the weekend, spending some quality time with Becky, while my Mum & Dad had the kids, we decided to get round to upgrading 2 of our contract business phones. Becky and our engineer Rory both have the Orange SPV C550, and we have been looking for a while to upgrade but there wasn’t anything “special” out there. I have the Orange SPV M3100 which has a slide out keyboard which makes it really useful for texting and web browsing.
We just happened to pop into the Orange shop in York to find that they had just released a new business phone, the Orange SPV E650. This is a smaller version of the SPV M3100 and has Windows Mobile 6.0 on. Brilliant we thought and we spoke to the guy in the shop.
We have found before that the sales guys in the Orange shops are really knowledgeable and helpful, but are totally let down by the Orange Support who they have to ring to get upgrades and packages sorted. This day was no different.
So the phones start going through the upgrade process, and at the same time I was adding to the business contract a 3G wireless aircard for my laptop. Various forms and phone calls had to happen while we waited in the shop. The 3G card got added to the account, Rory’s phone was upgraded but the Orange Support flatly refused to upgrade Becky’s phone. They wanted a purchase order faxed over on letterheaded paper (which it’s not really the sort of thing you carry with your on a weekend away). After an hour in the Orange shop on Saturday we left without any phones and Rob from the shop said he’d sort it for us for the following day. We went back today (Sunday) and still not sorted. They needed more company info.
Now I’ve been an Orange Business contract customer for about 5 years now so enough was enough. I called the Business Centre at Orange and assertively (as apparently you don’t get anywhere by shouting) explained the situation. The guy I spoke to said the whole thing was stupid and couldn’t explain what was going on. Needless to say that Becky’s phone got upgraded straight away.
So firstly I’d like to thank Rob from the Orange shop in York who went out of his way to help us. He did chuck in a digital photo frame/video/mp3 player, £100 for the old phones (that we don’t have to return) and got 18 months 3G connection for the price of 12 for our troubles so that was good. The rest of the shop staff were great too, and I don’t know how they put up with some of the customers who come in off the street moaning at them.
But most importantly … if it wasn’t for the shop staff Orange probably would have lost my business due to their call centre who the shop staff rely on to be able to provide a high level of customer service. Something needs to be done about it … and hopefully before my next upgrade is due!

http://www.actiontelecom.co.ukHey Dave, why don’t you give my site a try for making free international calls on Orange?

Your experiences seem to echo mine Dave, Orange CS is really crap. Orange have some really great products but no support to back them up.

I only get satisfaction from Orange when I ask to be disconnected. It seems that the ‘retentions’ team are the only people who have lots of bonuses to give away.
I’ve been with orange for 10 years now … but they don’t seem to treat me any differently from a rate whore who moves every year.
CRM … What is that again?

I’ve got an (aging) Treo 650 and I’m gonna try my hardest to keep it going until Palm release a new model. It’s my most favourite piece of technology I’ve ever touched or seen, period.
As for Orange, I find their CS to be very helpful, efficient and all that stuff. It’s one of their stronger points for me, but then I only ever call them to tune my service plan every now and again.
I’m an ancient customer though – which means I don’t get magic numbers but 0800s come out of my calltime (instead of 10p/min) and I get free weekend calls to Orange and landlines.
I may well have to speak to retentions when my Palm dies though – I hear Vodaphone are the only current carriers

gimpyDanny, all mobile companies suck, you are gonna get raped one way or another.
The no free calls and rarely are 0845 and 0870 free, which is cack. Search for “saynoto0870″ and get the geographical numbers and ask for them when some schmuck is giving you their national rate 0870 no.
It’s like banks, they all suck poo too.

http://www.affiliateblog.co.ukMy experience is the same. I recently upgraded to the M700 with orange and the guy in the shop was great. Just a shame that customer service made him wait on hold for nearly an hour before he was able to put my upgrade through! I ended up leaving and going back later but if he hadn’t been so knowledgeable I would have just left for good.

http://www.spanishventure.co.ukI got a orange 3G card for my new laptop.
turns out it does not work with Vista.
Will they take it back? no, I’m on a contract
Can I get a patch? no, it is orange branded which stops patches
Do I still have to pay every month? yes
Can I get an upgraded card? yes, but you’ll need to pay out your current contract AND pay for the new card
really? yes
can’t I just buy a new card? yes, but it will need a different plan as well
Can i just use this old O2 card I have and put your sim into it? I don’t know
turns out I can – so i still lose but at least I get to use my monthly credit.
You can get the rest of our business phones are staying with O2 now

A number of mobile wireless cards didn’t work with Vista, but several have had driver updates in recent weeks. Keep your eye on the support sections of both your laptop manufacturer and of the wireless card manufacturer.

http://www.smart-telecom.co.ukThe new Orange Business tariff are available. Orange today announced a shake up of traditional mobile pricing models for business customers with the launch of three new tariffs designed specifically to address the communications needs of sole traders, small businesses (SoHos) and medium to larger enterprises. Recognising that every business has communications needs which are as unique as they are, the three new Orange tariffs – Orange Solo, Orange Venture and Orange Momentum – allow business customers to choose the best value services for their specific business requirements.
