They have been doing it for a few weeks now: http://www.webpronews.com/topnews/2009/03/16/google-dabbling-in-adwords-favicons

I’ve seen a few ads showing favicons recently… they’re all hosted here: http://www.gstatic.com/ads/images/favicons/
Not currently showing from where I’m sitting, but obviously something they’re planning on incorporating.

Okay, so what’s with the G-Checkout button on some ads too:

Andy, The google Checkout image appears if you are using Google Checkout on your site. We have done quite a few tests and seen that it some areas, it does not increase click through rate, but does increase conversion rate of the site…nothing conclusive to report though!

Very interesting stuff here.
If your site has a favicon how do you insert it into your ad text though? Any suggestions or instructions would greatly be appreciated.
I think testing an ad with a favicon against one that does not would provide some interesting results. Has anyone undertaken this test yet?
Thanks

@GerBot – Not quite. That just shows if your favicon has been cached with Google, as I’ve tested a few sites I know have never participated in AdWords and their icons are there.

Hi David,
Did you get my message about using your services?

Google are experimenting with pulling the favicon into their ads at the moment. Of course, it only happens with the companies who are paying them fortunes!
