Number Plates

by

The DVLA is having it’s 20th anniversary of it’s auctions and I just download the catalogue to see what they are auctioning as some number plates are like domain names ;) . So how much do you reckon the featured number plate is going to go for ? :

Number Plates

I think it will go for at least 10 maybe 20 times it’s reserve price :

so what do you reckon .. how can a number have a value, but I suppose it is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it. Luckily my personalised plate was a present off Becky for my 40th!

Hey Dave, I offered you BL06GER a few months ago! You called me and my mother all kinds of names.

Either that or you didn’t reply, I don’t recall which!

Funnily enough I spent a lot of time last week looking at number plates and one in particular I quite fancy – but my Dave (proper Yorkshire lad!) reckons it’s too expensive at £3K+ – still thinking about it though .. should I or shouldn’t I …..

In the current market it’s difficult to predict how much exclusive plates will fetch at auction. You can however, rest assured the number will attract big money even in these hard economic times. People with huge personal wealth are looking at these exclusive cherished numbers as a secure investment for the future and recent auctions are generating interest from investors rather than from cherished number enthusiasts.

We would further add that the auctions are only a small part of the uk market for number plates . It is worth noting that there is a vast range of cherished number plates available through cherished number plate brokers and there are currently some great deals available.

Showing my age a teensy tiny bit here, but on the first day that the old ‘F’ reg came out, we were on holiday in Scotland and a *tractor* pulled out behind us, brand new, with the registration: F1ZZY. Lucky, lucky get :)

1 O was sold in January this year for £210,000. 2 O sold for £142,169 in March this year. And 3 O sold for £63,049 in June. I don’t think it will go for any more than 3 O but who knows who will be bidding on the day.

The Private number plates at dvla auctions are one way to buy, that said there are lotts of add on fees. Most people who wish to sell a persoanlised number plate do so through a dealer who will handle the legal transfer aswell as market the car registration number.

This is interesting! I think that number plate would go several times its original price!

Looking at the prices of the last few plates like this to be sold by DVLA i.e. 1 O – £170,000 Sold in Jan 2009, 2 O – £115,000 Sold in Mar 2009 and 3 O £51,000 Sold in Jun 2009 I reckon 4 O will be at least £45,000 if not more!

Whoever does buy it would seem to have more money than sense so if they would also like to go to http://www.newreg.co.uk and buy me my ideal number plates they are a ‘snip’ at only £19 grand…..it would be really appreciated! I’ve been keeping my eye on R4 CHS for two years now but no chance of me affording it, if there are any other generous enthusiasts out there that think it would look better on the front of my Mini Cooper than on a website please don’t hesitate to buy it for me! “How can a number have a value, but I suppose it is only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it.”

It can be observed that as human beings spend more time on earth, they develop new “needs.” I’m just not sure if these plates can be considered progression.

Oh dear! I’m actually not hoping it would go for such a price. Such excess doesn’t seem right with today’s hard times.

Im surprised at the selling price after reading some of the high estimations above. I would have probably made a random guess of about 100k. I am looking into private plates at the moment and for my MR2. I dont think it merits 63K on a plate but ive got a couple of thousand to play with and a good local company in simplyreg, to help me find something.

Interesting concept about the auction for plates. I have to be honest I never knew you could. All I know of auctions is Lovejoy!
