Microsoft Zune, iTunes, Wii Seasonal Product Launch

02.01.08

It seems Microsoft has attracted a web site increase of 299% to its Zune site on Christmas Day compared to last year. iTunes got six times that amount of traffic. Nintendo Wii was most popular by far in terms of Christmas gifts.

This got me thinking it’s well worth forethought on product launch times. The ability to predict when a product will be most successful in the market place is paramount. Surges in online shopping are bound to occur around seasonal holidays.

Actively thinking about when your target audience is  most likely to be online and thinking about a potential purchase could save you vast amounts of money on PPC campaigns and of course convert more sales.

Sound simple ? Well I wonder just how many companies are actively running marketing campaigns with no thought to launch dates?

Launch dates launch dates - they give me nightmares now after launching an SMS text message comp to win a Play Station 3 on the exact same day that Sony announced the delay for them being available in late 2005. Thank god we stuck to Icstis regulations - so many people ran these comps and faced fines as well as no profits. The lesson is, always risk manage your launch dates.

Same thing for websites. Is it better to launch in December or January? In December everyone seems to be busy and doesn’t really have time for it? OR are people lounging around the house and have time for it?

    Launches drive me crazy
