Microsoft Keyboard or Logitech Keyboard

what is this the webmaster’s choice of keyboard these days, I know that Matt Cutts uses a Microsoft Keyboard,

Matt cutts Desk

I think this is Matt’s Keyboard,

Microsoft keyboard

Me I used to be a Logitech guy, until my company started selling Genius Products and I’m cursed to use them at the moment.

I have to say I do like the look of the logitech dinovo edge at just over a £100 is sexy :

But Paul from microsoft was banging on about some new Microsoft keyboard that’s out there but I can’t remember what it was … Grrr Paging Microsoft …

I use an older microsoft wireless keyboard/mouse, but want to upgrade to the microsoft wireless entertainment desktop 8000. That thing is nice.

If you’ll use the macros function to launch programs, shut them down, insert things, etc. I really like this one:

    Also helps if you’re a gamer as well… ;P

It depends if you’re going for form or function. I prefer function personally, and as a result I have tested about 20 keyboards in the last decade or so… but I always come back to my 2nd hand IBM Model M.

If you’ve never used a Buckling Spring keyboard then you just won’t know what this level of finger feedback is like, its a totally different ball game. They needn’t be expensive, ebay is a better bet than an office dumpster these days… your local neighborhood geek should have a set of spares if you want to give one a test drive.

They’re really well made too, to the extent that when I spilled a nasty chemical on my backup keyboard I just ran it through the dishwasher. The key caps are removable and in the unlikely event of something failing then most of the parts are actually serviceable and still readily available. They only drawback is that you may need an adapter to connect it to a modern motherboard… but again - readily available.

Check ebay, there are always loads of them around and if you’ve never at least tried a clicky then you’re not really a computer professional. Lets just say that at my office all the designers have Mac keyboards, all the programmers have IBMs and all the salesman have Microsoft, Logitech or Dell…

But remember - if you’re buying a vintage model you want IBM. For anything recent you want Unicomp, who now own the rights. You’ll never look back, but be warned that computing was a noisy business back then and these things give a hearty dose of aural feedback too…

Just some standard Logitech one, I was tempted with the who dinovo ones but i dont fancy wireless mutch. I like a decent mouse thought, I use the Logitech G5 at the moment. Just ordered one of the new 24″ Benq LCDs too, cant wait till it arrives finally I get loads of screen real estate, was suprised how cheap some of the large screens are now.

I’d really recommend the Microsoft one. Bought one for my home setup and my leftarm typing RSI was directly gone.

After that i’d let my boss get me one at work also!

I was using some Genius K627 thing until last week - great key feel and small profile, but the sleep button was too close to the other keys and I’d often tap it by mistake, shutting down my system! That was soon prised out anyway.

Now it’s been replaced with an MS Comfort Curve 2000 which is light on the extra buttons that are rarely used and has a little calculator button next to the number keypad that loads up calc.exe Now THAT’s Genius! ;)

Either powerbook laptop (its own keyboard) or one ‘borrowed’ from a new iMac (the silver ones) on my ubuntu desktop.

As the above poster said, the new Imac slim keyboard is the dogs bollocks.

Hey Dave how’s it going? What kind of mouse is that pictured next to the two monitors?

I use a 4.99 keyboard and Microsoft optical mouse. The mouse is more important to me. Especially if I every have time to play a game, I find you have to have a good mouse and can not have a wireless one as the reaction time is to slow.
