It would seem that eBay users have drawn the short straw again with the announcement of Michael Jacksons unfortunate death yesterday. Anyone who bought a ticket directly from the Booking Line will be pleased to know they should expect to get a full refund onto the card they originally purchased with.

However for those desperate souls who bought there ticket via eBay or through a private seller will be “thrilled” to know they are now potentially out of pocket! They will probably struggle to get refunds from Auction Sellers or whomever they originally purchased from.

So in essence if you sold a bunch of tickets on eBay – I’d go out and have a beer tonight  because your about to get them all refunded and make a packet more. Unless your going to be nice and refund everyone.

If you bought through eBay I’d try not to loose too much sleep over it – rather next time you book to go to a concert go direct and save yourself a bunch on the ticket.

Either way – I could be wrong eBay may try to push through refunds, but I doubt it. That would be too much like hard work.

Cheers,

Anthony

    Hi Anthony,

eBay have said that they will refund all purchases paid with PayPal within the last 45 days. Also, if you booked tickets with your credit card and the total cost was over £100, you can claim the money from them if you’re unable to get a refund directly. (source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8120412.stm)

Sadly, it looks like this is the best outcome from a very bad situation. Apparently 800,000 tickets were sold (source: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/8121749.stm – No. 4)..

    Cheers,
    Ben

I have been reading on lots of other message boards how people seem to think they are owed a refund for buying tickets from ebay, sorry but you dont get anything back buyer beware the seller cant be held responsible for MJ’s untimely passing, next time buy your tickets through the proper channels, i only wish i had bought tickets to resell now double bubble

Those people who bought tickets through eBay are entitled to a refund since the seller will not be able to send them the tickets which they paid for. Granted eBay are unlikely to help and PayPal cover is only 45 days but a trip to the small claims court would find in your favour since you are not getting what you paid for and therefore the seller is in breach of contract.

I’m not sure that the outlook is as gloomy as you portray. Certainly eBay have published advice and most buyers should be able to do something to chase their money and get it back.

Of course there will be horror stories, but I’ve heard that sellers are already refunding tickets.

eBay should give refunds because they are entitled to do so.

There are lots of upset people on stubhub who paid a premium for a ticket and it got cancelled.

There is money to be made in selling “cancellation insurance”.

i sold tickets on ebay and tried to refund people with souviner tickets which is what they wanted but as pay pal will not let me show this as a refund they will keep my money that is in my account. it is not worth me refunding anyone anything as i will be out of pocket because of pay pals interference. BLAME PAY PAL AND EBAY they assumed that anyone who sold tickets would be dishonest and not issue refunds.
