I think the pictures were taken in different times. You see Mattcutts when he is spamming and chalenging search engines in the picture on the left. And in the picture on the right you see his status when he is running away after bots cought his spams.:)
Most significant difference is size of blue area on both pictures. On left foto is only smal portion of it and on right foto is almost everywhere. Is that the answer?
