ok lets have fun, if link buying is so bad, ban Yahoo I dare you .. search google for autos wow yahoo is number 1.. why because they purchased text links.
But does it make it wrong, Hell no. Are yahoo trying to trick the SE’s into ranking them number 1 for autos.. hang on they are a SE, Go figure, 1 SE saying buying links is bad and another SE is buying links . lol wonder where the confusion is hehe.
Matt if I spend 10,000 a month on textlinks you better believe that those links are a vote of confidence 10,000usd votes of confidence, Just the same as me buying Adwords, I want my text message out there. and if i have to spend 20,000usd a month to rank for POKER, it’s still better than hiding text links imo ![]()
And who will you hurt, the site selling or the sites buying .. we both know that’s a double edged sword..
Question : which link did I buy for my site or for my competitors site ?
Hint : But it’s so simple. All I have to do is derive it from what I know of you. Are you the sort of man who would put the poison into his own goblet or his enemy’s? Now, a clever man would put the poison into his own goblet because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool; you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.

Google’s Matt Cutts On Link Selling: Sites Might Not Pass Reputation; Buyers Might Get Targeted More
In last week’s O’Reilly In Debate Over Link Selling, I looked in particular at Google guidelines and how they said not to buy links to boost rankings. Google spam fighter Matt Cutts now expands on that in his Text links And PageRank post. Selling lin…2nd September 2005 @ 16:14

I think Google can and does do EVIL things to make money.
Google can be very vague and inconsistent in their policies and enforcement of their unclear guidelines. So if link buying is wrong, than Google should take out the top 20 for search engine optimization, and the top 20 for any competitive keywords. Also I get sick of all the suck ups that follow Matt Cutts around at SEO shows like he is a rock star. He is just a stupid arrogant puppet on a string. Also what kind of goofy business strategy is it for a 5 billion dollar a year company like Google using to let some geek engineer state company policies and information on his personal blog. Would Lockheed Martin, General Electric, Citibank, etc. do something retarded like that?
Furthermore it appears by Google’s recent poor search result quality that not blocking sites from passing PageRank would work better anyway. MSN does not filter or block text link buying and they search results are much better than Google’s are currently.
The average web site owner does not even know how to give a proper text link anyway. So good white hat SEO’s actually help Google, because they help classify web sites by using good anchor text. Again I submit MSN’s search results as proof of what I am saying. MSN is where Google was before all this filtering and blocking of sites passing PageRank.
Google can be very EVIL and stupid sometimes.

“what kind of goofy business strategy is it for a 5 billion dollar a year company like Google using to let some geek engineer state company policies and information on his personal blog”
Um, maybe it’s a good one?
Google has been more helpful in clarifying “the rules”, and more strict in enforcing them than the others, IMHO. I doubt that Cutts’ recent attention on paid text links is particularly welcome to Mr. Naylor and company, but then again, at least they know they need to find another effective way to provide a useful service. It’s just a business.

This is a very debateable topic.
I tend to agree more with Bill Jones.
Google should do a much better job of providing useful information to webmasters and not an employees personal blog.
The personal blog is better than nothing however.

[...] However, as shown Dave N’s findings Yahoo! is #1 on Google for ‘autos’. Dave N claims it’s because they bought that position. So how is it that larger companies can buy their position and smaller ones cannot without the fear of being adversely affected in the SERPs? Dave N says it’s in the money. Makes sense, but if they are accepting paid linking at all, doesn’t that go against some of their practices? They are the the top right now over MSN and Yahoo! so it goes without saying that we all have to try and figure out how to get to the top of the results on Google since it’s where the competition is. Money talks!
Have a look for the #1 result for all competitive keywords in lucrative industries e.g. casino, poker, bingo, betting, gambling, loans, finance … and the common thread is link buying, a lot of it.

Google Can Detect Some Paid Links
There is a lot of buzz recently about buying & selling links these days. Yesterday, Matt Cutts posted a blog entry named Text links and PageRank, where he warns those who sell links for the sole purpose of manipulating the…
