MARKS & SPENCERS stores to close
If Marks and Spencer Simply food store in Ripon can’t turn a profit when we only have a Sainsburys and Morrison supermarkets, what chance has Booths got when they open this summer.. who will be next to go, in Ripon we have Lost Woolies, Fads and now Marks and Spencer we don’t have many more high street shops left here !

Its a sad state of affairs. I think there’s one in Wetherby too . . . surprised that one’s not on the list.
Still, have to say, Booths is a great store, so I hope their expansion plans work out.
(PS – I have no idea why this is the first one your posts I’ve felt the need to comment on! lol)

http://www.starjoxx.comBloody ‘ell – My Missus were toying, seriously, with coming back to my native Devon but shutting down the Marks and Spencer store in Torquay is a bit close to home
I always shop at their food halls in Torquay and Plymouth when in Devon.
Also M and S is about the only decent place to buy cool clothes for 57 year olds – What’s good for Bryan Ferry shops in them.
Is it the time to buy a park home over there yet? I would but worry about the SEO market…

Hello, I sincerely hope the M & S Simply Food Store is not going to close. We have so many empty shops and only expensive small boutiques left for the wealthy left. We would like the M&S to expand in Lymington, Hampshire not close.

http://www.ibizablog.co.ukMy girlfriend works in an M&S simply food. All the stores listed are all stores that have been under achieving and have not been hitting targets.
I expect these stores have been on a “hit list” for a while and this is the perfect oppertunity and excuse to get rid of what the comapany sees as the dead wood.
From my experiance when i worked at M&S they could save money by cutting back the amount of section and line managers they have sitting in offices pretending to be busy while the average worker works their butt off on the shop floor

I go to Melton M and S every week after slimming world as a lot of the members do and find it very good. One member of staff was mentioning about the M and S card and we said we would look into that but if the Melton shop shuts we will not have the card as Melton is the only shop we buy food from. The Staff are always so friendly and helpful, it seems really bad that they will lose their jobs and some worked at Iceland and lost jobs there too. Hope the bosses at M and S reconsider.

Please, Please reconsider you planned closer of the Harbourside in Bristol. As I long time fan of M&S, I was so delighted when you open this store, just 5 minutes from the City Of Bristol College were I work, on Anchor Rd. Alot of staff and the students use the store and with HBOS and Lloyds TSB in the same area there must be good business in the week. The staff are lovely in the store and it’s such a lovely store anyway. Would it not make sense just to open during the weeks days and close Weekends as I believe you have a Simple Foods store in the Finance area of London that do this. I know right now the economic climate isn’t good for retail and you have to do what is best for your company, I use to work for John Lewis and my Mum worked for you for 15 years so I do understand a bit more about retail and appreciate you have to cut back if a store isn’t making a profit or achieveing targets, but please if you do have the chance to reconsider. It would be sad if you left the area and we got yet another over priced Cafe/Bar which is no use to busy office working people in this part of Bristol.
I go in the store everyday which might sound a bit excessive but I know quite a few of my colleagues do as well, for lunches etc.
Thank you

booths is a good supermarket, i moved away from ripon area, morrisons was dreadful, it certainly isnt full of “old ladies”
i lived in the area when the ripon m and s food store opened, it wasfar too small a unit the stock was too limited the one at northallerton ismuch bigger and better, or harrogate has a full m&s

Very suprised to see so many closures in “middle England” towns where I would expect sales to be ok with a large faithful clientele. Very relieved the north west has been spared the axe. Obviously the northerners are still spending decent amounts of money in their local stores.

P RitchieSave our M&S!
Residents of Harbourside have put a petition out to the community as the closure of the Harbourside M&S store will have a detrimental impact on both residents and businesses. Please help us with our cause.

I can not believe that we are to Loose M&S in Trowbridge one of the best stores to open in the town with excellent range of fresh foods and healthy ready meals . The staff are always pleasant and helpful. Sandwiches fresh with healthy fillings, the store will be greatly missed it’s a long way to Bath for me but I shall have to return to M&S in Bath for quality Fresh fruit and vegetables and all the other delicous treats thank you M&S for all the care and service over your short stay in TROWBRIDGE

Looks like M&S are shutting stores sooner than they originally said. The Ripon Simply Food store is set to close Mid March, as they have done all the consultations with staff etc.

Booths is a brilliant food store. I am early 30s and love shopping there! There isalways something different and the quality is second to none! I can’t wait for the new store to open!
