It’s all about the Blue Link
If your adwords users you will already have noticed that you ads being displayed on Google have had the clickable area is reduced to just the Title tag
the red outline shows you where the clickable area is :

also I noticed that the Google checkout logo is still clickable :

what I didn’t like here was the the checkout logo for Europc is very close the the dell link ??

http://tameside-eye.blogpot.com/Didn’t they used to do a little grey “speedy” shopping cart next to the title tag?
Link Snitch 2012 days ago
http://www.linksnitch.comI think they are constantly testing where and how to show the Google Checkout image(s). I was unaware of the change for the clickable area. Thanks for pointing that out.
Joff 2012 days ago
They still show the speeding shopping cart in Adsense, so maybe that’s where you’ve seen it and not in AdWords?

http://www.shoemoney.comGoogle checkout only shows on search pages or content network also? I think its just search but I could be wrong

So what is the deal for publishers? The adsense ads served have a large click area way beyond the URL and title. Is there any truth to the rumor that Google are only paying for clicks that hit the title or url?
Joff 2011 days ago
I’ve re-read this post again and now I’m confused
So did AdWords have a larger click area until now? I have to admit I’d never realised!
And Fireblade, I’m not sure how they would monitor that. Did they have some Javascript behind the scenes?
Fireblade 2011 days ago
Joff – I’m not sure, I caught part of a podcast on WMR with Dave and Danny S talking about the “issue”.

http://www.simpletiger.comFunny question I have wondered for some time: Do SEOs and people in the know click these ads as much as others? I usually just type in the URL if I see an interesting ad, but then doesn’t that actually do the advertiser a small disservice because they don’t get accurate results on where the clicks are coming from? Cool post Dave

Yep, the google.* sites changed a while ago. The content network (all those adsense publishers, out in the wild) are being changed over atm.
Its weird that they haven’t made the URL clickable!

http://www.salgadoinvestigations.comThings will be a lot better with adwords when the choice of adverts improves

http://www.theawristocrat.com/fundraising.phpStill looks the same to me. It noticeable that the area has been reduced in adsense ads though.

http://www.websitedesignelixirs.com/This affects adsense ads too. No change in CTR noticed on my sites yet. I don’t think many people realized they could click anywhere but the title.
Fireblade 2007 days ago
Just in the last couple of days the “click area” on my adsense ads has reduced to URL and title. No change in CTR or revenues so far.

http://www.flightschoollist.comAdsense is getting worse every year. My friends used to make $$$$ every month, now they get crap.

http://www.theps4forums.comI think the Adwords and Adsense programs are both on the steady decline. Adsense publisher earnings constantly seem to be dropping and website owners are always battling to avoid being SmartPriced by Google.
