I started the “anti-fat-bastard” campaign a month ago. Decided to cut out on bad carbs and get more exercise. Sure, it’s harder work than taking a pill a day, or drinking a shake for breakfast, and one for lunch or dinner a-la slim fast, but the results are more rewarding.

A month in, and I’ve lost over 20lb (10kg) and 2 inches from my waist. Sure, it’s all going back on over the Christmas period, but I’ve got a head start on the bastard at least!

    :)

Nah, more satisfaction and more motivation in keeping it off by doing it the old fashioned way.

I’d always say go the natural route Dave, i.e. eat less and try the odd jog/run. It’s worth it in the long run. I like to have my cake and eat it, and I find doing a little exercise let’s you get away with “most” weekends…

Giving the fags up is the hardest part for me, especially when I’m out playing with Mr Beer.

Nothing can beat the old tried and tested formula of “eat less, move more” :P

I used to weigh about 230 and wanted to run a 10k. I read that in psychology it takes about 21 days of daily repetition for something to become entirely habitual. So I challenge my self to run 21 days. (Never run consecutive days though, very bad for your joints and tendons) I started running every other day but after a week, and two weeks, I still sucked. I continued and started getting irritated until the end of my 3rd week when something happened and running just became easier. So I started running longer, up to 3-4 miles. Then after about 20 days, I ran my first 10k. I started doing a 10k every week until I could run one without wearing out. Since then I met a girl who has rocked my world, and also cooks extremely well. So now I weigh 250. Don’t do that part, but definitely check out http://www.menshealth.com it is definitely the best tool ever for male personal development. You don’t need to spend a dime to get in shape, but if you want to, remember it is your body, take care of it. Eat all day long, granola bars, fruit, tuna, chicken, salads 24/7. If you teach your body that there is plenty of food around, it wont get so hungry and desire a ton at once. Then your metabolism does it’s job and gets you skinny while giving you more energy. I was thinking about becoming a personal trainer. Let me know if you have any questions D. I need to work on my self actually. :) Good luck!

Isagenix…it works if you don’t cheat on the cleanse part (you will be hungry!!!)
    - find something to distract your mind during that time…I wouldn’t buy the protein shake part, you can practically get the same thing from GNC for cheaper.

As for should you cheat? Well just like Shoemoney says Internet Marketing has a gray area, so does dieting.
If you do that cleanse a couple times, you’ll feel great. Worked for me! And no I don’t sell the product, I don’t need it since I am at my target weight now.

    Happy holidays!

Being a (relatively) fat bastard myself weight is hereditary so whatever help you need go for it.

    They say it’s a lifestyle change…

Hats off to a dear friend of mine who successfully went from a life threatening weight to whats deemed as “normal” in the space of a year.(JR)Stomach bypass op.

Contrary to popular belief beer is one of the least fattening drinks… it is alot better for you than most spirits…. beer is 97% water!

Ahh the dot com body shape hey? Know it well I do. There are no shortcuts but there is a $20 device you can buy that can help things along. Most hardware stores have them, they are called padlocks and you apply them around the kitchen, I’ve shipped a couple of them with instructions in my time. Seriously there is nothing that beats diet and exercise. A clean diet is about 80% of the battle.

Dave - I’m about to start touting for sponsorship for the London Marathon - I got accepted last week and will run for http://www.nacc.org.uk as I have the condition and want to help others who are having a torrid time. So why don’t we do it together? I can get you a place through a mate of mine. Whadayasay? Go on!!!!

A colleague is doing the Lighter Life programme - basically starvation for 100 days then a slow process of learning to eat again. She’s stuck with it for about two months though, only consuming watery shakes and the odd cereal bar. Scary stuff and I’d just rather buy a larger waist size!

Want to know my “secret formula” ? :)
I bought a polar pulse clock and an ipod nano, I wanted to do jogging and the two problems I had to face were
    - it sucks (wears out)
    - it’s totally boring
So when used with a pulse rate checking device - as any geek would - it does not wear out too much, you can stand long ranges and feel effects after about 2 weeks.
Against boredom I am listening to the daily search cast (yeah, really), strikepoint (my favorita), java posse and windows weekly.
If I do too much in a week I throw in some audio books. This way it worked for me very well and I burned over 10k calories in three weeks. Nothing I couldn’t compensate for with more beer of course. :)

I’m on the meat, cheese, diet coke, and wine diet…I miss the breads, but it is better than killing someone when the button pops off my jeans.

Weight management is a lot like SEO — we all know it is just a matter of links, content, and a product that coverts, much as we know keeping the weight off is a function of exercise and not eating as much. Like everything though, we want faster, easier methods. If I could write a scalable script to shed weight, I would.

@Cygnus you got me going for a while, and that is not easy..:)

You should open an SEO gym, Dave will be your first client…

@Mary - it’s not the fats that pack on the pounds, it’s the calories and carbs that aid you in that.

Look up your favorite beer and see how much each bottle has for calories & carbs, now multiply that by the number you drink in a night, week, month, whatever. Most will be shocked.

In my layman opinion, Isagenix’s value is questionable at best.

Most people if you are restricted to 1300 calories/kcals a day will lose weight.

Send me half of the Isagenix money you get disgorged of, and I will tell you what to eat and exercise daily!

  19. 19. Farmer | December 4th 2007 @ 4:06 am

Dropping down to 1300 a day is insane unless your maintenance intake is 1500-1600 and on average I believe it’s around 2k depending on individual. Not sure how you would function on 1300 a day and exercising.

  20. 20. Jonesy | December 4th 2007 @ 12:55 pm

It can be done but it’s too extreme. Just drop to 1800/2000 cals, burn another 300/400 doign whatever, stay in for a couple of months and hey presto - 1.5/2 stone should be gone. Keep the exercise element and you should be able to maintain the wait.

  21. 21. Libertate | December 4th 2007 @ 3:08 pm

Insane - EXACTLY! The is the standard Isagenix plan I researched. 1260 calories a day with snacks and everything included!

Have you considered the genius of crossfit? Don’t be put off by some of the hardcore workouts on the homepage, if you read through the faq’s you can see that pretty much all of the exercises described can be scaled to ability. It’s good because you rarely do the same exercise twice and workouts are generally over in less than 20 minutes, so you won’t get bored. Many of the workouts are heavily biased to cardio-vascular fitness and will raise your metabolic rate for hours afterwards.

Hey, did Steve from Prego* in Otley get in touch about a little social travel venture? I overheard him chatting about it in our local coffee shop a few weeks ago and suggested he might want to talk to someone who knew a bit about seo.

What’s wrong with round? Round is a shape… flat is not. ;)

  24. 24. Derrick | December 25th 2007 @ 11:47 pm

I am reading some of the info - I have been on Isagenix for only a few months - dropped 27 pounds and now just maintain - perhaps 1 cleanse a month and a shake a day. I have kept it off and feel good. So you do not have to maintain the low calorie diet mentioned here. Also, you can eat some items during a cleanse (almonds, granny smith apples, snacks provided, etc). They have new snacks coming out next month that should taste even better. I did not do this to sell - just to feel good. Hey -why not give it a try?
