is searchengineworld.com cloaking backlinks
Ok either Google is Totally fucked up, or Brett Tabke is cloaking again,, and this time it’s backlinks.
check out www.searchengineworld.com Backlinks in google
Rumours are, that Brett is about to launch a competing blog to http://searchenginewatch.com/ so my question is, “Is Brett cloaking my backlinks to Pubcon” and if he is should i remove them? I don’t want google banning me.
This page has never linked to searchengineworld http://www.seodays.com/bios/david_naylor.html

What I find most interesting about this is that Google is showing the 301, if that’s what is happening, as an actual backlink using the link: command. Yahoo will hide links all day long that are redirected but looks like Google is not.

http://www.aosep.comIts amazing how long the big G has been in the game and yet still has these loopholes.
Jeremy Luebke 2136 days ago
How is this a loophole? 301 redirects have to be in place for a reason. It’s not G’s fault that some use it in ways it wasn’t meant.

http://www.webmasterworld.comLastly, you do realize that searchengineworld.com is 10 years old and did produce 300k page views a day at its peak in 2000 year ago until it was nuked early last year because I didn’t have time to keep it up.

For a while (like at least a few months) and at least several months ago, searchengineworld.com simply redirected to the pubcon site. I never checked to see if that redirect was a 301 or a 302 or something else.
The old forum was taken down from searchengineworld nearly a year ago I think, and the redirect installed then.
Google has since associated the searchengineworld domain with the pubcon domain – and you do link to pubcon from that page on your site. The association is the same sort of thing as when the www and non-www backlinks list are identical. That same association can happen with related domains too.
So, Google lists exactly the same backlinks for searchengineworld as they do for http://www.pubcon.com and so I see nothing to worry about.

http://www.webmasterwords.comI agree with g1smd, because searchengineworld used to 301 to pubcon and they are both hosted on the same server google has assumed that they are the same site, i’ve seen it happen a lot of times.

http://www.webmasterworld.comBut the redirect (for embedded in post urls) did change g1smd after a massive proxy bot attack from the UK and europe late last week. Several noticed we were offline numerous times last week for that reason.
Say, you don’t know anyone around here that runs proxy zombie bots do you?

I don’t get your meaning.
Are you saying I am wrong?
Or are you saying the rest of the world failed to notice something I have known about for several years?

Heh, ddto196070, How about answering my question?

“Domain Association” and the consequent merging of site data, such as backlink lists, is something that Google has done for several years.
What part of what I said do you take issue with?

Gone a bit quiet hasn’t it?

I almost did not post it but if DaveN gets banned from WWF, I might as well join the party.
So, if bret wants to ban me from WWF, you guys are my witnesses.
So bret, please don’t have your mods come up with some lame excuse as to why to ban me.
The domains you own are yours and you can do what ever you want with them!
1. searchengineworld.com redirect script is not disallowed by robotx.txt
2. It redirects the domains with a 302 so no link juice is passed to the domain being redirected.
3. By having the searchengineworld.com url on webmasterworld.com the link juice from WWF is passed to SW
4. So why is link juice driven to SW? Is there a future use for the domain? I mean just put disallow on the script and the end.
5. Are their plans to 301 SW to some other domain?
Now, now…something is in the oven…I’ll keep the last tid bit for when I get banned.
Bret you have been Trolled by Igor The Troll, welcome to my World.

The trouble with 301 redirects and backlinks - SEO Blog - Joost de Valk 2114 days ago
[...] It’s way more difficult to check for sites for which you can’t look into the logs though…. 301 redirects can be picked up (and thus affect the ranking) within a matter of days, whereas the backlinks to that 301′d page or domain might take months or even up to a year to show up in your backlink checks, if they ever do that all. (Think about it, 301 splitting still works…) [...]

http://tips.webdesign10.com/Did SearchEngineWorld.com ever rank #1 in Google for robots.txt?
I wrote this back in December but never found out what site was 301 redirected to Pubcon to cause that unlikely ranking — or if it was another technique:
