InfinityWard in Financial Difficulties

by

Well they must be! What other situation would a company be in to release a product to a mass market that firstly has been mis sold to earn a fast buck and that wasn’t fully tested so that it brings down millions of consumer accounts.

I’m referring to the release by InfinityWard of the long awaiting, much hyped, new map pack for Modern Warfare 2 which cost around £17 or 1200 XP points. After waiting nearly 2 hours for the new map pack to download tonight I headed onto Xbox live to get my fill of the new maps only to find that it was just a Mosh Pit map pack, you couldn’t choose the type of game to play. Not only that the kids Xbox was just crashing and exiting from Xbox Live so they couldn’t even get on.

Usually when you buy something online you can get a refund if you’re not happy with it…. where’s the returns form on Xbox Live to get your money back? Isn’t there some distance selling laws about returning a product that doesn’t meet expectations or isn’t what it says on the tin?

A really big disappointment from what has been the greatest game to come out on the xbox360 for a long time, and what a big disaster for the PR of InfinityWard who have seriously cashed in today from the many millions of people who have stayed faithful to the game and downloaded the new maps.

Maybe Activision/Infinity Ward needs a bit more cash to pay the lawyers now the IW founders recently had to “clear their desks”.

Although you make a good point about DLC, where is the refund option? At least if you buy a game or expansion pack in a shop, you can try taking it back, sell it on or trade it in to help pay for another game.

You know you can get tot he new maps playing the other game types right? They just actively call out the new maps for anyone that wants to rotate through just them. And since so many people are playing the new maps, there are hardly any games available in the other modes.

You can’t get the new maps in the other gametypes just yet.

“Behold! The power of feedback. We’ll be integrating the new maps into all playlists as well as enabling Double XP for all playlists tomorrow”

Looks like that will change though. Hopefully will cheer Dave up a bit. :-)

Of course there are distance selling regulations: http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/business_leaflets/general/oft698.pdf

Time to buy Bad Company 2 Dave . It makes MW2 look like the original Doom.

Actually, I almost agree with Chris G – Bad Company 2 does rock (I’m not sure it’s better than MW2 though. It’s not as slick, but it’s much more tactical). Oh, and you can blow up buildings.

BC2 is definitely my preference, wasn’t too happy about the lack of dedicated servers for MW2 on the PC so I didn’t buy it, only one of the whole series I didn’t buy. IW are are now blacklisted from my games collection, greedy bar stewards.
