I got my new phone – the HTC Touch Diamond
Back in June Dave posted about which phone I was going to be getting, as my upgrade was due on our Orange Business Contract. It was a good time of year to be ready for an upgrade with some great phones being released. Running Bronco, (and Dave!) requires me to be in touch with whats going on 24/7 near enough, so I need to have Windows Mobile on as a priority, also for the phone to be easy to use.
We got the HTC Touch Diamond on Saturday afternoon… the last one in the Orange shop. Dave spent the next 4 – 5 hours playing on it saying how great it was and how he wanted it. When I finally got my hands on the HTC Diamond I was a little out of my depth as the controls were all new to me, having previously had an Orange SPV E650. I was unsure whether I was going to keep it which was really disappointing as no matter how I touched the screen or moved my thumb / finger over the screen I couldn’t seem to get control. (All the harder when a now expert on the TouchFLO is peering over your shoulder)
Now a few days on and I really love it. They say that the HTC Touch Diamond is a rival, if not better than the IPhone which I can well believe. The whole interface on the phone is not only gorgeous but so simple to use, once you get used to it. Browsing on the web is great with the ability to be able to zoom in to certain points on a page and move around, you barely ever need to use the stylus. The only slight downside is that you find yourself rubbing finger prints off it a lot to keep it looking immaculate, like a real black diamond does. I would definitely recommend this phone, or to wait for the HTC Diamond Pro to come out that has a slide out keyboard.

I love my Nokia E90, but I think it is an acquired taste, it weighs about as much as my girlfriend.

Right, Orange has just royally pissed me off. Sat in the office all day waiting for my Diamond, rang up at 4 to check it was still coming, the lady said it will be with me by 6. So waited another 2 hours and nothing!! Just spoke to Orange customer service again and this time I’ve been told I’m out of luck – it’s out of stock and August is a precises they can be as to when it’ll be in stock again. This is twice now they’ve told me I’ll get it and twice it’s transpired to be out of stock. Needless to say I’m fuming.

Just had the same story as Chris, shocking customer service from Orange.
Tuesday – your phone will be with you Wednesday.
Wednesday 17:10 – your phone was despatched at 8something this morning and will be with you today.
Thursday – we’re out of stock and it was never despatched. 2-3 weeks before you’ll get it now.
To be fair they tried to secure one at my local shop for me to collect but they’re over-subscribed as well. Am waiting for one of Orange’s team leaders to call back, don’t mind too much about the phone, can live a little longer with my chunky old M3100 despite a knackered screen which sometimes works but I absolutely resent being lied to.

Absolutely the same resentful experience of being told a load of old bull by Orange. Even the timing and the bull is similar. Why not just tell us “Your choice is very popular, it’ll be a couple of weeks or so” rather than pissing off brand new or existing customers by lying to them constantly?
Am very tempted to cancel the order and write to the CEO to explain why I will never use Orange as long as I live.
(Mind you, am also tempted to sit tight and wait for the phone as the airtime deal is decent – curses you Orange bastards!

I have been phoning orange every other day to be told that the phone will be released on a different day everytime. I phoned on Sunday 6th July to be told it wa sbeing released on 8th, phoned on 8th and it wasnt still on system told to call back in evening. called in evening and was told it was never due to be launched that day. Told it was to be launched on 21st July. Was fuming so on Thu 10th i called in wanting to terminate my contract and was told it had just come in stock. I was giving my delivery details when phone got disconnected and i had to call back in only this time they were back out of stock! I was told i was on a back text list and that i would recieve a text once the phone was back in. I was told it should be back in with 2-3 days. Its now 9 days on and ive now been told its gonna be august. I hate being lied to. Nobody seems to know what is going on in orange. To make matters worse I was sat with a friend on Friday who also called to upgrade he was told they were out of stock so he thretened to disconnect. Only then to be told that they had different stock levels in the loyalty department. Guess what, he got his phone 2 days later! They are just so inconsistent and when I told them they said they cant lok into the matter and dont believe that this happened. I was sat with my friend when he phoned!

Phone arrived last Friday, have to say so far it’s a peach, with some very thoughful touches and so far, no reboots necessary. Worth the wait? Well, they did give me lots of discounts because I complained so loudly! Restored my faith in their customer service, just so long as you get a good rep on the other end of the line, not one of their liars.
