I hear Matt Cutts is bidding. Purely to save him the hassle of removing it from the index in a few weeks time.

How can they sell this? What exactly are you buying?

    From the ebay post:

“The main domain has over 3 million links going into it over 80,000 of these links are from OTHER .gov sites with almost 1/4 million links also coming from .edu sites.”

So for $9,914.84 isn’t that a steal? Something fishy going on here.

My favorite part from the Q&A:

Q: Hi, how would upload of files happen?
A: Upload of files will happen by transferring to me. I will then upload the files.”

and you will never see them again :)

If this guy (parasitic ?) is for real, what would keep him from just doing the auction again in a week’s time? Since the hosting space has no limit but “common sense”, this guy should be doing this daily & at $1k/page, not $10k/site. I’m sure plenty of cash advance & mortgage newbs would jump at it.

So who else has spotted the site already? Once they put the content online it’ll be even easier to spot where it is (isn’t that the idea). This guy pulled off a neat trick, but it’s nothing new (there are more interesting deals available) … I just hope he hasn’t stepped on the wrong people’s toes by putting it on ebay and attracting this much attention.
