Why would Google allow me to add other peoples sites to my Webmastertools Dashboard and even thou I haven’t verified that I own or have access to that site they started sending me messages in my message center, It would have been nice if they had sent me a message about the penalties that my blog had picked up last week !

Also useful – if you have a site duplicating yours it will feature the same WMT meta tag (if you use that) which you are verified for and can then remove from Google’s index if required.
Hi Dave, these notifications are actually public information, so while it’s strange that you’re seeing them (I passed this along to the team to have them take a look at it), it’s not really anything completely private. There’s usually a link to ChillingEffects.org in the message as well as on all search results pages where those URLs would otherwise appear, so that anyone can look these requests up.
