Google Wave Invites

Google has today released 100,000 “preview” invites, for the long awaited Wave communication and collaboration tool. These are considered “pre-beta” as many of Waves features are yet to be completed. The gradual release brings back the memories of the hyped up Gmail launch back in 2004 on a similiar “Invite Only” program.

This lead to a whole bunch of opportunists (putting it politely) selling Invites on eBay, well not at all to my suprise on the day Wave previews are released we’ve already managed to find one (click to view):

This particular auction is offering 5 invites for £200! which seems a little steep to me, however I wouldn’t be at all suprised if some die hard Google Fan buys it :)

    If these are the same invites I got, then it’s an invite to the developer sandbox, and not even to “real” wave – as far as I know they won’t carry over accounts or data to beta or final wave.

    That is so bizarre. Thanks for letting me know about this. Why should I be surprised? If people can sell Runescape items on ebay why not Google Wave invites?

    This is interesting, why would anyone in their right senses want to pay for something that is not even in beta yet? Again, like you said – I won’t be supprised to see die-hard Google fans paying for it.

    Hey, as some one who, runs a Word of Mouth and Social Network marketing company I can really see the potential in this tool, and we could have really road tested it for google, however, in there wisdom they neglegcted to send me or anyone at my company an invite yesterday despite, us all applying an putting our selves on the waiting list the minute Google Wave was announced

    So if there is any out there who could spare us an invite then we would be very grateful as it would be nice to run one of our now infamous living with reviews about it. and start using it to benefit some of our clients via its marketing cababilities, my gmail is [email protected],

    I still have to look in to Google Wave before I start getting excited by this but there seems to be quite a buzz around it at the moment. However I’m not Entirely sure I would fork out 200 for some tickets!

    Twitter was an absolute spam-fest/email harvesters delight yesterday with all the claims of Google Wave invites in exchange for following users.

    I expect there are a few Gmail accounts being hit with extra email spam today!

    I am actually really excited to see what this Google Wave is all about and how it will change the way we communicate with each other. Should be very interesting to see how it competes with Twitter or if Twitter will introduce some of Wave’s features to its platform.

    I would love to receive a Google invite. I’ll be sure to share once I get my invite. My email address is “[email protected]”. This email address looks weird since its a way to prevent spam.
