Is this a post to rank for “Google Toolbar for Chrome” ? Noticed one yesterday “Download Google Chrome” .. LoL! Juz Kiddin’ :)

    Cheers!

Anyone checked out the EULA for Chrome? Google have full control over any information that you put into the browser and can use it as and how they wish. That’s enough to put me off.

  5. 5. Mark | September 3rd 2008 @ 12:47 pm

@ady berry - get over yourself. Who reads an EULA? I bet most companies do this. Jesus.

here are some bookmarklets which let you get some of the stumbleupon functionality

“Who reads an EULA? I bet most companies do this. Jesus.” - probably the same people who don’t bother reading the small print in their insurance and get caught out. I’d certainly agree most companies have restrictive EULA’s but check out what G are saying - “You agree that this license includes a right for Google to make such Content available to other companies, organizations or individuals with whom Google has relationships for the provision of syndicated services, and to use such Content in connection with the provision of those services.” what other individuals, companies and organizations?

I’m getting tired of having to switch browsers to use stumbleupon already.

  10. 10. mike o | September 3rd 2008 @ 3:10 pm

    @ ady berry

Go download the open source version then, it doesn’t have an EULA.

Did any developers actually get a sneak peak of Chrome?

  12. 12. Puraz | September 3rd 2008 @ 3:44 pm

Everyone is talking about plugins, but not many people are acknowledging the other things it’s doing well so far…speed because of multi-threading, and a minimalistic approach. With my aging computer, I love squeezing out every bit of speed I can, and this browser is fast - buy me a few more months before I’m forced to upgrade.
Just like all new software, we’ll just have to give developers time to create plugins.

  13. 13. matt | September 3rd 2008 @ 4:02 pm

I haven’t found any add-ons yet or plugins though i did read the whole comic strip which has allot about plugins.

Google does advertising… do you expect them to do anything less than collect info so addwords can work better? My biggest flaw right now is that there is no ”
add to dictionary” option for ‘misspelled’ words.

  14. 14. Jitin Agarwal | September 3rd 2008 @ 5:41 pm

NO , IT DOESN’T REQUIRES ANY GOOGLE TOOLBAR . The address bar itself gives an option to make google search for what ever u type .

  15. 15. Matt | September 3rd 2008 @ 5:48 pm

It is fast, but not sure the claims that it’s foot print is smaller. Each tab opens separate process alongside the main chrome.exe. When you add up all the individual processes it’s pretty much the same as FF3. I guess it does mean a tab should never crash he whole browser… but not had a tab crash yet so can’t test that!

  16. 16. sneha | September 3rd 2008 @ 6:29 pm

the browser IS fast because its minimalistic but I miss my plugins!!! They’ll have to come out with them fast to keep people hooked..

and tho its useful to an extent…who (like me) thinks that the address bar is a little too suggestive and confines the spirit of random searches!! ;)

  17. 17. DaveN | September 3rd 2008 @ 6:39 pm

@jitin google toolbar isn’t just for searching with ..

  18. 18. DaveR | September 3rd 2008 @ 8:06 pm

I agree with DaveN, google toolbar isn’t just for searching with. It allows me to keep all my bookmarks with me wherever I am, it helps me to translate some pages, … well, if you have used it, you know what I’m talking about :)
We need add-ons like these, until then, I don’t feel confortable using Chrome :(

  19. 19. G | September 3rd 2008 @ 9:37 pm

I also want Adblock Plus. On Firefox or Netscape Navigator 9, it blocks them from downloading using a filter subscription blacklist/whitelist. You can add to the blacklist or whitelist. This will block most ads, even Google Adsense ones, Sorry Google. Hopefully, there can be a Chrome Version.

  20. 20. hotels | September 3rd 2008 @ 10:04 pm

    Hi all!

I downloaded and installed the Google Chrome browser, yesterday. However I haven’t any idea how I can find and install the Google Toolbar. At first I checked the official toolbar.google.com but I didn’t find any solution for Google Chrome. Ok I know this browser is on a beta level, but it’s funny that the Google doesn’t support their own product . . .

  21. 21. Cac | September 3rd 2008 @ 10:30 pm

Try the firefox google toolbar. It uses same plug ins (javascript). It might work.

  22. 22. rafa morley | September 4th 2008 @ 1:06 am

no google toolbar on chrome, no function. Shame.

  23. 23. Debt Aim | September 4th 2008 @ 2:02 am

@ G … i doubt Google will want to support an adblock program… obviously one will be released but i bet browser updates will come out to disable ad blocking since it’s their main revenue source.

  24. 24. mvbrianmv | September 4th 2008 @ 3:11 am

Ahh i’m mostly pissed i can’t get autofill
isn’t it a simple enough addon?

  25. 25. Charith Janitha Abeywickrama | September 4th 2008 @ 4:21 am

I’m also waiting for Chrome to develop support for Google toolbar. I can not start use it until such time. I home Chrome will have grate new features. Hurry up google guys, get on with it & good Luck!!!

I used to Google tool bar. I get common book marks in office and home with Google book marks.
It is not identifying Indian fonts yet. I am unable to read http://www.eenadu.net in chrome. Still many plug ins are missing.

  27. 27. Firefox User | September 4th 2008 @ 6:20 am

Yet another browser, I don’t think we need another browser. Firefox is perfectly fine and has all the addons you will ever need. Just what the Firefox addon creators need, to port their addons to yet another browser, and not spend that time making their addons better…

  28. 28. ToneLeMoan | September 4th 2008 @ 6:21 am

Last poster - I agree! OK I know it’s early days but Adblock is the single reason I had to give Chrome up for now only 5 minutes after install. I can’t live with ads - I’ve been taking it for granted on FireFox!

  29. 29. Rach | September 4th 2008 @ 7:10 am

Hmmmmm yes, i would like my google toolbar in chrome.
I understand chrome is BETA, but it still looks a little bare. IE-7 shows your open tabs on one page like the chrome ” Most Visited ” page so thats nothing special.
It is still a nice look though.

And one more thing i just did - closed the whole browser with all my tabs i had open, the question didnt show up ” do you want to close all tabs ” I have got used to this and it saves you if you or your possessed mouse ( haha ) decide to close your browser before you can finish or save whatever you were working on.

I must say i dont like the way the blocked pop up bar shows up on the bottom and blends in blue with the browser itself. Can the color change ? I didnt notice it at first.

You need all the nifty little google tools that we have loved about google toolbar.

We love our add ons and bookmarks and busy tools always at hand. Never mind stats for nerds……………..give us tools !!!

    Please ……..Thankyou

I need google tool bar in Chrome website.. Expecially i need the book marks from Google toolbar

  31. 31. Amitav Roy | September 4th 2008 @ 8:30 am

ys they have just launched the beta version and this is the early phaze. i think they have done a nice job with it so far. the facilities that are given there are worth a lot and so i think they will develop this in to a very good browser and that time they will def. give such options.

  32. 32. Viv | September 4th 2008 @ 9:55 am

I don’t like the way chrome opens pop-ups……..and how do ask it to allow pop-ups from a site ??

Yeah i miss my plug ins too (but then who doesn’t) and can we expect a yahoo toolbar for chrome [:D].

Cheers and as of now ill stick to firefox !

  33. 33. Keith | September 4th 2008 @ 10:05 am

Please post if you have found a working version. I really covet my SEO extensions with FF3

  34. 34. iCE | September 4th 2008 @ 12:32 pm

“NO , IT DOESN’T REQUIRES ANY GOOGLE TOOLBAR . The address bar itself gives an option to make google search for what ever u type .”

have you considered the fact that the google toolbar can be used to lots of other stuff than the search, which the address bar for sure don’t support!

  35. 35. Paul McCann | September 4th 2008 @ 12:41 pm

An interesting thing I picked up, if you open the bookmarks toolbar, and click on the bookmarks folder the top of the list is an option to
    “Get Bookmark Addons”

After pressing this you are taken to Mozillas firefox addons site and the bookmarks category.

But try installing one, you cant!!

Maybe something to look out for in a very near future, after all if its using mozilla tech, why not run FF extensions, it would open their browser up to a lot more users and plugins very quickly!!

I am at the mo making do with the bookmarks widget on my i-google page after setting it as my homepage. It is long winded and of course goes back to making it slower on older PC’s but I’m sure they will add the toolbar soon.

  38. 38. Cyber Dude | September 4th 2008 @ 3:39 pm

I don’t see a need for a google toolbar in Chrome for the app itself has most google toolbar functions.

  39. 39. audioconnector | September 4th 2008 @ 3:45 pm

Hey guys! I have something to tell all of the people looking for a GOOGLE Toolbar for GOOGLE Chrome. You don’t need to install it, just enter what your searching for in the address bar and it will automatically GOOGLE it for you.

    Take care, audioconnector

I would imagine part of that agreement is how they are able to use adwords and such so sufficiently. They use your content, to market to your page, or any other page for that matter. If they ARE giving information to the U.S of A then, well, I guess we’re all in trouble huh?

  43. 43. Jeff | September 4th 2008 @ 4:26 pm

I like the chrome browser! It does need to include the rich Google features that we are used to via the toolbar.
-Bookmarks (only use Google bookmarks so they are on each of my pc’s)
    -Notebook plugin.
-ability to add search buttons *news *Finance etc..
-Gmail …although you can give this an application feel, I like having it in tabs so that mail/ cal/ docs can be open in separate tabs. it is cleaner to me this way than having 20 items in the task bar.

  44. 44. Samatva | September 4th 2008 @ 6:29 pm

Many of you are LOOKING RIGHT PAST A QUANTUM LEAP… or at least a minor paradigm shift ;-)

Things like toolbars and other client-side apps are becoming a thing of the past!!! We are going full-circle back to the server-terminal model, except this time, the clients (terminals) are smart and the connection to the server is really, really fast.

I missed my Google Toolbar right away, but after seeing that:

1 - the spell-check is built-in to Chrome (like FireFox)
    2 - I can manage my bookmarks online http://www.google.com/bookmarks/
3 - I can embed my bookmarks into my iGoogle page
4 - I can use the bookmarks feature in Google Notebook http://www.google.com/notebook
5 - I can stretch my imagination to other solutions - mostly online ideas!

Embrace the new ideas, no matter which browser you use.

Oh, for all you “privacy” fear mongers: your ISP and several of your “helper/toolbar/e-mail/widget” developers already “know” everything you do online (you and 265 million others) - at least Google wouldn’t exploit that in any descernable way even if they did care enough to have a human snoop on “you” - i.e. tracking every single move of millions of people doesn’t invade the “privacy” of any individual… you just aren’t that important and they *really* don’t care what anarchist/porn/perversion/silliness you consume.

    tried chrome and love it.
Chrome rocks. no problems so far and the hangups (eg. not responding messages) in got from IE on my system. but .. a BIG BIG BIG NO NO is that google launched this thing and no google toolbar .. im really pissed! coz i use highlighter to bookmarks and theres no way im going to use the favourite method thats there now. What are google thinking. someone doesnt know what the left hand is doing from the right.

Google has changed their EULA. It no longer says that they may use their personal information for their own use:
    http://www.betanews.com/article/The_Google_Chrome_EULA_debacle_Whose_content_is_it_anyway/1220545728
if you want to read an article on it, i just read the actual EULA

  47. 47. TaiwanSteve | September 5th 2008 @ 10:39 am

Went back to Firefox, as Google supports it with google toolbar - - not its own browser? Lame!

Google Chrome is da future, so calm down guys and give Google some time… ! :p

  49. 49. bigcrags | September 5th 2008 @ 2:43 pm

I use Google bookmarks quite a lot so I’ve got all my bookmarks available to both my pc’s. Can’t do that in Chrome yet. I also don’t see anything wrong with Firefox, so for now Chrome is just a short lived distraction - I don’t see any reason to change.

There are already several plugins out for google chrome but they are standard and come with the installation of Google Chrome http://google-chrome.com/chrome-plugins/

  55. 55. Denny | September 8th 2008 @ 2:36 am

Everyone keeps saying you don’t need the toolbar.

BS, I need the spell check button.

try spell checking text you’ve entered in a form from the address bar

  56. 56. Rach | September 8th 2008 @ 6:27 am

And OMG, read the posts Booty. Please !!!!

WE KNOW the address bar does this. And WE KNOW
bookmarks are there. And i dare speak for alot of us - we know our computers

By reading the posts, majority of folks want the Toolbar, love the tools and functions/options and ease

And must i point out again, we dont like the Boring way chrome looks right now. Yes its BETA ……BUT we expected more from GOOGLE !!

No offense, but do we get it now ??

  57. 57. Clikspy | September 8th 2008 @ 9:51 am

I run into the same issue and i desperately need the toolbar. I’m searching 24 hours for a solution.

  58. 58. Ray from bathroom taps | September 8th 2008 @ 1:18 pm

Initially I quite liked chrome but find it very annoying that it does not remember what I type like firefox does. This is a great timesaver and I can find no options to enable it?
Having to retype email addresses and usernames is a pain.

  59. 59. Fianor | September 8th 2008 @ 8:02 pm

I love chrome, it’s so fast as compared to FF on the sites I visit regularly. However I think I’m going to have to go back to FF until there are either functions built-in, or add-ons created that replicate adblock, flashblock, and the Google toolbar highlighting.

For those idiots here mouthing off about the Google toolbar search being built in and the rest of us should learn to use our computers, shut up. You’re just making your self look really stupid as you obviously have no idea what all the toolbar can do. The search bar in chrome doesn’t have a 1/4 of the usefulness the toolbar does. Go look at what all the tool bar can do and shut up until you understand why you’re so very wrong.

  60. 60. Allan Smith | September 9th 2008 @ 1:42 pm

you don’t need a google toobar! Just type your inquiry into the address bar and it will search for you, using google.

  61. 61. Undead Bushi | September 9th 2008 @ 3:55 pm

For the Firefox users that said

“Yet another browser, I don’t think we need another browser”

I bet many people were saying that when Firefox was in its early days.

If you don’t like it, just don’t use it, there’s no need to complain about someone trying to do something new.

I love FF, and I think Chrome looks good, but I don’t plan to switch until Chrome supports all my FF goodness, and I’m content with waiting.

Who knows, Mozilla may even improve FF in the meantime, more competition means we all win.

  62. 62. Tim | September 9th 2008 @ 10:18 pm

Jeez do people actually read or understand how things work. I cant believe there are people writing things like look at the licence agreement I wont use google. Stop using PC’s then and get over yourself. The question was, does anyone know where to get the google toolbar and so far no one has been able to help. I came here for an answer and got nothing!

  63. 63. Tim | September 9th 2008 @ 10:19 pm

Oh the tool bar does things like fills out forms, spelling, errors, translates pages and more for those of you “techies” who think it is only a search bar

  64. 64. Tissy Joseph | September 10th 2008 @ 7:50 am

Chrome is excellent; loads much faster than FF. But Google tool bar for chrome is a must; at least PR indicator. Does anyone know of a Google toolbar for Chrome?

  65. 65. where are they now? | September 10th 2008 @ 3:53 pm

Does anyone have an actual link to download the toolbar from for chrome? also, hotmail which I still use doesnt even know what chrome is. Wants me to download another browser but I can still get in.

  66. 66. RocketRon | September 10th 2008 @ 8:58 pm

    A truly Great program.
I get round the spell check by having
    Spell check.net.
    on one of the tabs.

  67. 67. Doe1967 | September 13th 2008 @ 12:18 am

Without a proper Google Bookmarks button, an “Up one level” button, a way to highlight search terms on the page, as well as add-ons like the one that allows to duplicate a tab with one click, Chrome usefulness is really limited and I don’t see how it is really better than IE8.

  68. 68. Marty | September 15th 2008 @ 9:56 am

Hey David check this out, it has toolbar and SEO functionality.. It appears to be the best solution until something official comes along.

    http://www.chromeplugins.org/google/chrome-tips-tricks/google-toolbar-chrome-50.html

  69. 69. Mike, Toledo, Ohio | September 15th 2008 @ 12:51 pm

I agree with one post here: I don’t think the Googs (my name for ‘em) will ever allow an adblocker - ads are their main source of income, after all

If one wants an addblocker one will have to download and install one.

I have read at the Techno Babel Blog that Privoxy will work, but it will have to be configured withing Chrome to do the job.

    Here’s the link to it:

    http://www.privoxy.org/

Reviews at Techno Babel say it works. I haven’t tried it yet, but I believe it’s the thing to use.

It should be no problem for those who read and post here as most are not likely to be Eternal Noobs looking for turnkey software.

I just finished an alpha of the google toolbar and Stumbleupon. I’ll release a finished beta next week. Expect a full version without any bugs in the next three to four weeks.

  74. 74. HIDIR | December 4th 2008 @ 8:02 pm

Why do you look for a toolbar? :) address bar is already a google toolbar.you set a default search engine whlie you are installing chrome. If you type your search to the address bar, it will automatically make a search on google and display results. I dont think that google will make a google toolbar for chrome:)

  75. 75. Clikspy | December 29th 2008 @ 4:08 pm

Now that Google Chrome Browser is out of Beta. Has anyone come across the tool bar. Let me know

  76. 76. dlewis | December 30th 2008 @ 2:19 pm

Is google going to create a toolbar for their bookmark app? It seems to me this would have been included with chrome, this is very disappointing.

  77. 77. diane | January 4th 2009 @ 2:56 pm

    whiners!
I love firefox, but it’s slow on a few of my machines and has crashed quite a few times lately causing me to loose some bookmarks.

Chrome is fast and hardly ever crashes (I have crashed it several times with over 15 tabs! don’t try this at home, kids)

I miss autofill, so if its a form I use ff. for all other browsing - chrome is rockin my pc.
