Maybe geo-targeting mobile search and AdWords to the physical location of your mobile phone e.g. local bread shop, garage, etc.

I still predict a full desktop OS. Probably along the lines of what apple did by taking *nix and building on it. Either that or a shared/virtual desktop, but I consider that less likely.

I also see them releasing computing clouds & storage like Amazon.

As far as verticals, with the news of Google health coming, can travel, legal, and employment be far behind?

good question…. I think they will focus on mobile units the on coming years, because there are new calculations showing a refluent amount of purchases of laptop computers in ex japan.

Google to move away for tcp/ip develop dark fiber Network and OS, Microsoft still holds the Keys.. with the Desktop and Browser.. Google is only a website, Microsoft is the choice of the Masses…

Just buy apple, mozilla and ubuntu for infrastructure. buy wikipedia and dmoz for content. I guess it takes only a fraction of one quarterly income for google to aquire there.
    But would it make sense?
Google is in technology, algorithms. Let all the users create the content without having to worry about it or pay for it.

A nice move would be to buy (or build) an university and make sure you get better (and right) qualified people.

I think Google should buy Cannonical, Kubuntu, Edubutu etc, brand it up Google style, build in all the cool Google technology and bring it to the masses.

    heres my predictions

localized comparison shopping - something to tie into the new mobile product

online finance - Perhaps Google would be interested in a web based Quickbooks/MS Money competitor.

Jobs? - Looking at Yahoo’s Hotjob partnership, perhaps Google will see the value in one of the job engines/aggregators.

Next big move[s] are in social sphere, opensocial is not neglecting thing, also gPhone, local but I think they are expending it to classifieds and (P2P) person to person commerce.

When you look at the recent announcements yesterday (Nov 5th) about the mobile OS from Google - I think they are going to focus on on that area, especially with Geo-Targeting ads. Building a new OS would be too costly, because they would also have to have developers developing apps (and not just the existing Google apps) for it as well - plus it would be hard to monetize through ads. It would be hard to break MS’s hold on the office and desktop world.

Google will attempt to tighten their grip and more stuff will slip through. Then we will see the launch of Googlestumblediggtubespace as they attempt to throw a big net over everything…

Google will focus on personalising search geographically for some types of search.
Not only will search be relevant to who you are, but also will be relevant to where you are at the moment of searching.

eg. you type a term of restaurants into Google. it knows your preference and your location and can bring back a restaurant relevant to you.

  20. 20. Steve | November 7th 2007 @ 9:43 pm

I totally agree. The localization of search is where the next evolution will happen. People want to know about their community.

  21. 21. Igor The Troll | November 8th 2007 @ 1:34 am

I do not want to be forced location unless I desire it.
So location:restaurant oommand would be nice.

I would guess that they are going to buy up some big names in the Yellow Page areas. This would really beef up their local and mobile search offerings.

i think that they’ll eventually do an online os with a simple pc installed client that will just have a browser and term/tcp/dsl drivers etc on it… maybe some graphics card drivers and the usual peripheral support tho i dont think this is going to happen any time soon. the 8mb broadband cap its going to be slow tho i suppose load balancing technologies like Xrio Q-Balancer should help break that… hmm plenty to think about.

Then you can by an empty box, connect it to the Internet and Mother Google will install itself onto you.
