Google Premier Sponsored Listings ?

by

Can someone tell me why this is so wrong :

I remember Google once saying that they were in the auction the same as any one else, so why are we seeing Google Premier Sponsored Listing

You can clearly see it’s marked Sponsored Link in my mind that means one thing and only one thing, no auction just a fixed price maybe, or a CPM deal. Whatever it is this could be a game changer, of course Google may have just given up competing with us mortals and decided that they want the number one slot.

Yup, that’s wrong diddly wrong! I’d much prefer it if they focused on ensuring neutrality here and instead put their energy into seed-funding the next big thing that is going make our mere mortal lives that little bit more bearable! :)

I don’t believe they paid a penny at all for that listing Dave. Resizing the browser window to a smaller preset now shows 1-2 SERP listings.

CompareAndSave must be fuming. Out pay MSM and get walked over by the big green Google machine.

Well as much as I hate what they’re doing obviously they are entitled to utilise their own properties in any way they choose. Ultimately advertisers might whine, but so long as Google continue to dominate the market they have a captive audience in their advertisers.

Its a shame that Google have become so obsessed with finding more and more ways to monetize their search results, they are in serious danger of turning users away, but that the nature of business – make money….now make some more money.

The first natural listing in your example is the 11th link on the page making it unfair for pretty much everybody. Its a shame but you cant really blame them

I don’t have a problem with google circumventing the auction with their own ads in circumstances where they don’t stand to generate significant revenue directly off the back of it but…

This link takes users to credit card comparison engine which is an entirely different auction based on CPA and is a blatant attempt to increase the popularity of one of their specialist search products and a particularly lucrative one at that.

    Bad Google!

I’m not surprised they are doing this. Remember, Google is the biggest advertising company in the world…. all they really care about is turnover and figures.

Its a business case for them to include one more sponsored result. Pushing organic down even further. I will be blogging about this later on, I think title will be along the lines of “Where did organic search go?” lol
