We have just been looking at the new UK images of Ripon and the surrounding area, and have come to the conclusion that the images are maybe 3 – 5 years OUT OF DATE.

But all in all, good job Google. At least we can see what our city used to look like from the sky :)

I noticed the map view in my area’s been updated too with information like junction number, etc.

The satellite images are still very outdated though they’re not as old as Microsoft’s offerings. I’m comparing with flashearth.com, assuming Google Earth is using the same satellite images as Google Maps.

I’m kinda surprised at the level of detail they have of Menwith Hill. It’s not that long since they’d hardly admit it existed.

Last time I went there (to play basketball, quite a few years ago) the security was still very high.

Yep. The new hi-res ‘updates’ of the UK have knocked the image of Loughborough back from 3 1/2 years old (my flat being built) to at least 5 years ago. The previous building on the site of my new flat (new from 2003) is still there, which was razed in 2002.

I’ve found that Microsoft tend to have newer and higher resolution images where I’ve looked.

In fact, although I type this on a Linux desktop, I have to say MS Virtual Earth is a lot better than Google maps.
