Google makes it harder for agencies again

Now if this was SEO agencies i guess you wouldn’t give 2 cents for that information, but Google for what ever reason, decided to pull the advance search abilities for Ad Agencies.

I saw this in my Client Center..

The ‘Copy or Move Keywords and Ad Text’ and ‘Advanced Search and Editing’ tools will be removed from all AdWords accounts on August 20th, 2007. These features are still available in Adwords Editor, which you can download for free. Learn more

so I downloaded the adwords editor, which didn’t work on MY Vista Machine, so any ideas how I can take 10,000 keywords and quickly add Unique tracking ID’s and Url’s to each…

I have no idea about the KW’s, but kill Vista and revert back to XP.

No idea about the KWs either I’m afraid (unless you have an AdWords customer services manager - try speaking to them - they can often upload spreadsheets etc.).

Never used Vista, but AdWords Editor runs under wine on ubuntu for me - another option if you have a different box lying around…

I use vista and adwords editor and I haven’t had any issues. Are you on version 4.0?

Using the editor to download the account is actually as easy as simply copy/paste or cut/paste if you want to delete an account. It’s a great tool, and I would recommend it to any Google advertiser who pays any attention at all to their account.

I’m running Vista and have the same problems. Unfortunately I’m thinking Shandy has the right idea - it’s time to revert to XP. Vista looks nice but performs like a Lada.

Will, I have an Account rep, but that still shouldn’t mean that because I spend enough that I get special treatment, it’s nice that I do, but wrong that most don’t have one

I have gone back to XP as usual Microsoft have not made Vista right before it launched, I remember having problems with XP and going back to 98 it was not till a year later that I reinstalled XP and I bet it will be the same with Vista

    Two thoughts:

    1. It looks like the AdWords Editor is an XUL application running with XULRunner. If this is the case there should be no reason why it doesn’t run on Linux natively.

    2. If AWE doens’t work on all Vista machines, does anyone get the impression that Google is trying create reasons for people to reject Vista? There are quite a few reasons why they would and Google have never been Microsoft’s biggest proponent.

Where is Matt Cutts to answer this question?

The AE team has been testing against Vista and, well, it works on our machines. :)

Seriously, if you can provide more specifics regarding the problems some of you are seeing it will help us a lot. It does sound as though this isn’t a one-off.

Does anyone know of another “Adwords Editor” out there? I’ve been looking around lately to see if anyone else other than Google made similar software, and I can’t find anything that really looks like it’ll be as functional.

Also, using AE, I can’t find a way to modify ad scheduling. Is this correct or am I missing something?

[…] DaveN was whinging on his blog that this was going to be a bad thing. I was quite amazed that he wasn’t already using AdWords editor. It seems now that he has no option he has tried to download editor and it wont work with his edition of vista.  I’m sure once he gets it up and running he will see why it’s such a good tool. […]

Have you tried changing the .exe so that it runs in compatibility mode for Windows XP?
