Google complains in confidence but we all know about it

by

So now Microsoft will change Vista afer Google complains about Microsoft’s anti-competitive streak again.

Nothing more frustrating than being forced down the Microsoft desktop search root is there?

Go quietly in complaining though Google otherwise people may well remember the acquisition of Doubleclick (online advertising)

So Vista has a built in desktop search able to index your drives contents courtesy of Microsoft, surely that will run along side Google’s  desktop search won’t it? Apparently not, slows things down.

Oh Microsoft you big mean bully you, give Google a chance why don’t you? They have only just started buying anything that moves, and lets face it you have been stepping on toes for many years haven’t you?
Funny how these things always come about AFTER an OS release so it’s a bit late in the day, don’t you think?

“All we are saying is give Peace Google a chance” – everybody sing together now…

That’s the thing about Microsoft. It’s not possible that it didn’t occur to one of the developers “Hang on, if someone wants to use GDS instead it’s going to be dog slow”.

They do this stuff on purpose.

the way I see this, Microsoft will hold back the sp1 release, while they work into the code away to add a third party search plugin, my guess is by the time they have tested all the Third party desktop APP’s Google will get their wish,,, 12 – 24 months from now .. and with the security issues with Google desktop hmmm maybe 36 months

It’s funny how if you’re Microsoft, writing bad software becomes a competitive advantage.

It’s funny isn’t it… you come up with an operating system and it gets very large. Then people moan about it being anti-competitive. Google are HUGE, do you think i could argue that they push their own ads onto users and don’t let me stick my own on there…? i know its not an exact comparison but you get the idea.

The bottom line is it is microsofts software so why should they really be forced to change things for other people.

Because they’re using their dominant position in one market to leverage their position in another market. That’s illegal, and rightly so.

IMO, Microsoft should be free to do what they want with their software – especially when it comes down to functionality such as Spotlig… I mean desktop search.

It’s not as if they’re bundling an entire enterprise application into Vista and making it difficult for others to compete, desktop searching is a pretty basic tool in the grander scheme of things.

So if Google decide to release software that duplicates the taskbar clock or the start button, do MS have to bend over backwards to make it possible?
Surely it’s up to the 3rd-party to ensure their software works with the OS, not the other way around.

Or am I missing the point? :)

The ruling just doesn’t go far enough, after a compromised response to Googles complaints they plan to extend ” parts of the consent decree that govern “middleware,” or software that links different computer programs. “
