Google Buzz success or failure?

by

Ok it’s most probably too early to tell but all the signals to me, is that it’s going be a long haul for Google. Today while hopping around sites I fell onto mashable, this thing that hit me was :

ok the message is plain and simple to me Mashable really want you to BUZZ their conent, but is it working ..

653 Tweets to 5 Buzzers that’s what would class as very very disappointing from Googles point of view, also add into the factor the readership of Mashable, they are a social media site !

then look at the following :

conclusion if Mashable can’t get users what chance do we have !

Well it is still very early days. But after a flurry of privacy issues, many people haven’t bothered to sign up.

I’ve avoided it because it’s just not appealing to me. I’m going to put my neck on the line and say it’s about to become as popular as Google Wave. ;)

plain yet very strong arguments, and true to the points that your conclusion made me giggle. As a user of both tools, i participate in twitter a lot more, and i only READ posts on buzz with least participation in conversations. To me, why bother to use two tools from which you get into contact of roughly the same groups of netizens anyway? Having said this, i will continue to use these 2 tools anyway. Perhaps buzz will envolve into a widget so hot we at present cannot fathom. Who knows?

As a rule of thumb I would say that Google do not do social well. Look at Flickr vs. Picassawebs.

There’s also the fact that you can integrate your Twitter stream in to Google Buzz, rendering it almost pointless.

    Fair Conclusion..

Buzz just doesn’t quite fit in with my workflow right, i go to my emails to check emails, i load my twitter app to see my social stream.

Also Buzz can be very annoying if you are following anyone who auto posts onto Buzz and twitter as you get a duplicate feed from them.

Needs more work and maybe full twitter integration (which would probably defeat googles goal)

Mashable readers already have well established social networks so one more is simply one more – a pain.

However for newbies it may be more appealing. We shall see.

  • [...] Google Buzz success or failure – In recent weeks I’ve already asked the question do we really need Google Buzz? – another social network being launching, but if you now take a look at some of the numbers of buzzes happening in comparison to Twitter retweets, it makes for interesting reading, especially considering the site in question specialises in social networks and media, surely their readers would be the most eager users of Buzz if the launch had been successful? You don’t understand Buzz

The button is just counting Buzz clicks through Bitly – a share created that way is through Google reader, and people using Google reader can share without it counting.

But the actual conversations on Buzz is what counts, and often Mashable posts there gather 200+ real comments.

Yes, Mashable is definitely trying to push the use og google Buzz among its readers, noticed it. However, even like that, its success is not as expected. On the short term, Google Buzz is for sure not a success. Maybe if they work on improving it, at some point might be.
