Google +1′s on Google AdWords Goes Live

You should start seeing Google +1′s on Google AdWords display ads as of 10th/11th October (depending on your timezone). How this will change things we don’t yet know, but there is a chance it will have an effect on Google.

Firstly there is a possibility that they use +1′s as a ranking signal, this would be a great way of ranking commercial search terms – where links aren’t really appropriate, the majority of the population can’t figure out how to create a link, let alone linking to every company the like. Whether this becomes a reality, I don’t know, but its certainly out there.

Secondly, and this is probably more likely, the +1′s will be used to recommend stuff via your social circle, so you may find Google ranking pages that your friends have +1′d. It seems like a great way of Google monetising referrals – if every +1 on your ad creates y amount of referrals and creates x in sales, advertisers are going to be prepared to pay for +1′s.

Either way, I’m sure we haven’t seen the end of Google’s plan for +1, they seem to be plugging it everywhere and you never know, the death of SEO might just be around the corner!!! (I love a bit of doomsday preaching)!

If anyone has seen any examples, please let me know as I couldn’t find any yet!
