Firefox Update and SEO’s Suffer
so I have been pulling my hair out recently with the the amount of Firefox crashes 3 this morning already, I have trimmed down as many plugin’s as possible to no avail.. I even decide to update and download the beta of Firefox 3, and this is where it gets slightly suspicious, what’s happening with the 2 plugins I use 99% of the time?
yep SearchStatus and ShowIP both are incompatible with the Beta version of Firefox 3, so the 1 million dollar question
is it SearchStatus and Showip which is causing the errors in Firefox, If so the problem needs to be fixed asap or my love affair I have had with Firefox will be over and Microsoft will have me back for ever..

http://www.affiliateblog.co.ukI’ve been suffering a heap of crashes recently too. In fact yesterday firefox wouldn’t even start and I spent the day back on IE.
I disabled a load of plugins yesterday although and things are bit more stable and I’ve still got the SearchStatus and ShowIP running. I’ve got version 1.21 of SearchStatus though – not sure if that’s relevant or not!

http://www.vabeachkevin.comDon’t worry, FF3 crashes just as much as FF2, at least it does for me if I have more than 1 plugin. Maybe its time to try Opera…

I’ve just disabled those to see if it’s any better. I get mainly youtube freezes, it doesn’t seem to be able to handle multiple tabs open with anymore than 1 or 2 youtube vids loading at once. The whole thing slows down to a grinding halt or just crashes completely. This has only been happening over the last few days – since the update in fact! Bloody hell.

http://netters.nlI also switched to FF3 last week, but many of my plugins don’t work anymore. For searchstatus you can just adjust the tag in the content.rdf. Just make it 3.0b4 as maxVersion. After that searchstatus is working great in FF3. For the rest of the plugins it will be waiting.
And yes, you can switch to Opera, but there you haven’t plugins at all.. So i guess we must be patient

http://www.sankesolutions.co.ukI have had a ton of FF crashes on a number of machines I use, I then found out a lot of them are caused by on screen Javascript.
Two seperate fixes made an enormous difference to me, see if either help you (FF2 only)
First i installed Adblock and blocked googld adsense for a few particular sites, although since a recent update of FF I have removed most of the blocks and it seems to be working OK.
On my other and more dramatic crashing machine I delved into the profile folder a found a number of duplicate files which had been created, and just deleted all the duplicates. Now works a treat.

http://www.toolbarn.com/You know, for a while IE wouldn’t even start and FF was starting to crash. I disabled all plugins and gmail still crashes it on occasion, but IE started working and FF is a ton better.
The new UI on gmail is about all I have problems with now, but all the things I loved about FF with those plugins are gone. Flock? Opera? Safari? Do any of them work right? I hope something does.

I wonder if MS secretly made a slight change to windows (using updates) on purpose so that it makes FF crash alot

FF3b4, 26 plugins and no crashes. Rock solid since beta 3.
Just because an extension reports ‘incompatible’ means nothing other than the version i.d. is set to

Fuck. This blog just ate my comments which explained how to fix all your problems.
Well, I’m not typing that out again.
Dudes, Google is your friend. Hard to believe that needs explaining on an SEO blog.

I had ShowIP active as well, on FF 2.0.0.12 and crashes started happening for me abotu a week and a half ago. After disabling ShowIP, I haven’t had a crash since.

http://lasertechnologynews.blogspot.com/2008/03/is-acne-laser-therapy-effective.htmlI never really have any problems with FF crashing on me. I don’t have search status or show ip. Is that why FF doesn’t crash on me?
If you go back to IE, FF must really be pizzing you off.

http://www.foursquareinnovations.co.uk/For me Firefox ver 2 crashes now and again on Vista, but not XP Pro or WIN SERVER 2003. I suspect this is because the compatibility mode for ver 2 doesn’t extend to Vista (I may be missing a few updates here?).
Anyway, for Firefox ver 3 I’d go to properties and check that the compatibility mode settings are ok. Or just roll back to ver 2 which seems to work fine with the Search Status plugin for me at least.

I love being an early software adopter as much as the next man, but surely if the latest version doesn’t work, you just roll back to the previous one?
Also, isn’t FF 3.0 still only in Beta? Maybe when it goes to general availability it will be cause for concern when plugins don’t work but that will also be an issue for the plugin developer to resolve, not Mozilla.
What Mozilla does need to do though is to isolate all incompatible plugins to prevent them from causing crashes. I don’t know if they do this already, but your post would suggest they don’t.

What Bob said above. Same story here.

http://www.quirk.bizHi David,
I’m Craig, the guy who authors the SearchStatus addon. To give you some background on why this situation exists, Mozilla requires that every time they release a new beta (and we are on beta 4 right now), all extension developers must test and update their extension, which in most cases means changing a number indicating the maximum supported version – currently 3.0b4.
The good news is that I’ve just released SearchStatus 1.23 which supports Firefox 3 Beta 4. I’ll do my best to keep with the betas as we near the final Firefox 3 release.
You can grab it from http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus

http://congressratings.com/I experience crazy ajax related crashes and had to uninstall firefox 3 as well.
Google gears and ajax scripts seemed to have contributed as well.
I never even used showip, but the 20-30 other addons seem to definitely conflict with each other.
But the 20-30 wonderful addons i use make life much easier, and nothing could get me to go back to Microsoft, even massive crashes.
