Disable all of your plugins and see if it still does it. Then start enabling one at a time.
I have had problems with Gmail and FireFox plugins crashing for months now.
Chris I have tried that too.. but without plugins why use FIREFOX !!!

I had the same problem for a long time and it turned out to be the HTML Validator plugin. Yes, I know disabling any of the plugins suck, but it did help me. I only turn it on now when I need it.
Sorry not a solution, just a elegant short term solution to a much larger long term problem.

Had same problem for 3 days running. Uninstalled a couple of plug ins that I don’t use that had recently updated. Problem solved… (touch wood)
I’ve been running ie8 since the day you posted about its release. In ie7 emulation mode its not bad, but in ie8 mode its real quirky.
I feel your pain… gotta do that when I get home.
Working fine on OS X Leopard, got it loaded to the hilt with plugins. I agree though, it is most likely a plugin that is not updated for the newer version on your specific platform.
Been thinking that I would uninstall and reinstall FF–it just seems to hang every couple of days. Reinstalling plugins and saving all my bookmarks has kept me from doing it yet.
