I like the Mesothelioma one…that is nice.

But wait, isn’t that the network that was bought by AOL, which partnered up with Google?
If that is the case, isn’t it okay to profit off spam?

I’ll look into it. It’s sort of a problem because we sell a lot of text links and we really can’t be policing them.

Honestly, these do feel icky to me too.

If you run a site (no matter how large or how small) you’re responsible for the content of that site. Personally, I believe that that includes the advertisements that show up on your site, as well.

I pointed out the mesothelioma one to them in August - back when it was indexed by Google. It only takes a quick glance to realize it’s the same page a couple hundred times with synonyms. they said they would look into it, but oh well.

    For the content I agree.

For advertising the truth is the best we can do as an industry is to police them.

The bottom line is those are advertising, and although I find what they are doing icky, I love the fact that they are paying our bloggers to provide free content.

I think that is the way to look at this: would you rather have free content from O’Rielly (who had this same issue) and WIN funded by these type of ads or would you rather we shut down these sites?

Those advertisers that are paying your bloggers to provide free content. But that’s not the only set of advertisers that would pay you to provide the free content. There are other advertisers out there that would love to advertise on your site(s).

If you compare this medium to other mediums like radio and television, those networks do a fine job of providing free content–and they police their advertisers just fine.

Do you believe in the principle that you will be known by the company that you keep?

Lets say hypothetically a legitimate company wants to buy a link, but then sees all the spam and scrapers in the links and then decides better of it.

Are you enhancing or hurting the value you can offer to potential legitimate advertisers by linking at garbage?

the ability to transfer green pixel love will now be terminated in 5…4…3…2…1…

    I can see it now…

“Los Angeles Police have stunned the world by releasing a self-confessed heroin dealer who had set up a network of under-age kids pushing drugs in local schools.

The Police Chief said although I find what they are doing icky, I love the fact that they are paying our kids to go to school”

Yeah, that’d be alright wouldn’t it.
