SEO Roadshow

by

Well back at work after an excellent weekend in Edinburgh at the SEO Roadshow. Just like to say how good it was to go to a small event (like it used to be in the old days) and get to chat to lots of interesting people in the industry in a great environment.
Thanks to NFFC, MrMackin, RCJordan, for organising the event.
Looking forward to next year!

Chris Pirillo : 302 Problems

by

I had a quick chat with Chris earlier today, I wanted to make sure he wasn’t a 302 hijacker ( JOKE ), Chris is one of the Good Guys like Danny Sullivan.. anyway I’m waffling again, so when I searched for Adsense I saw :

go.lockergnome.com/584
Similar pages

sat at #4 so a quick header check

Headers for go.lockergnome.com/584 (130.94.xxx.xxx): HTTP/1.1 302 Found … Googler Paul just admit defeat :)

also why advise Webmasters not to use 302′s when you do !! search adwords

Headers for services.google.com/marketing/stats/adwords (216.239.57.110): HTTP/1.1 302 Found

Whats an UPDATE

by

In the eyes of the search engines and Professional SEO’s an update is a change to the algo that they are running currently.

What isn’t a update !

More pages of your site indexed, that’s just the SE being nice ;) or increasing the index size
More backlinks, again that’s a index size increase
More Pagerank or Less Pagerank.. Google updates this every 3 or so months, but it’s nothing to do with an algo UPDATE.

Yahoo .. Links and Chinks

by

Links : are we about to see the Yahoo SiteExplorer launched? Today we saw the Linkdomain: command start showing just crappy arse sample data… boo hiss .. but are they porting data into the new system, lets hope so..

Chinks : The Yahoo tracking url was always a good sign when deciding how many H=1 sites you were up against or if your site was up for review QT=dq or didn’t pass review (hehe) QT=dqp, well they have gone all cryptic on us… now we get a crazy string like :

http://uk.wrs.yahoo.com/;_ylt=AgrwWxTnyY9tTH4ac6SUvMJLBQx.;_ylu=X3oDMTBjcWlmbGY5BGwDV1MxBHNlYwNzcg–/

oh hum ..

Matt Cutts : link buying

by

ok lets have fun, if link buying is so bad, ban Yahoo I dare you .. search google for autos wow yahoo is number 1.. why because they purchased text links.

But does it make it wrong, Hell no. Are yahoo trying to trick the SE’s into ranking them number 1 for autos.. hang on they are a SE, Go figure, 1 SE saying buying links is bad and another SE is buying links . lol wonder where the confusion is hehe.

VoIP : Here comes Microsoft

by

So the Redmond boys announced it has acquired Teleo Inc., Microsoft’s Buy or Build policy seems more like a BUY BUY BUY policy these days, Personally I would have thought that SKYPE would have been their primary target, But Teleo’s technology is heavily focused on making calls from the PC to a landline telephone, a feature that Microsoft said would start finding its way into MSN Messenger before the end of 2005.

MSN Search can they make it

by

Has MSN SEARCH missed the boat, or is it just me, I hear the term “I Googled for” when it should be I searched for, Has Google stolen the search product industry,

like Sony Walkman did with the personal stereo
like Hoover did with the Vacuum Cleaner
like Biro did with the ballpoint pen
like Velux did with roof windows and skylights
like Johnson & Johnson (band-aid) did with plastic adhesive bandages

to me when people say do you use MSN I think Microsoft Instant Messenger.. .. is it just me ?? btw if you ever hear me say “I Googled for (insert keyword)” shoot me :)
