SpellCheck, AutoFill, WordTranslator, AutoLink, Send with Gmail

I think Google are not doing themselves any favors, i have built a Google Toolbar equivalent but i am no longer releasing it due to things like this: http://www.chromeplugins.org/chrome/google-says-you-cant-use-chrome-stuff/

If thats how they treat developers doing good things for Chrome you can count me out i will stick with Mozilla.

But the bar is cool because Google gave it a name (Omnibox) and told people to think it’s cool, even though it’s logging their IP addresses alongside things they type in there without even pressing enter.

The same way Vista sucks “worse than XP” because Apple told people to think it does.

And people are suddenly starting to question whether Obama is “ready to lead” because McCain suggested he isn’t.

It’s not that people don’t think for themselves much anymore, it’s just that our entire perception of reality is shaped by the things we limit ourselves to seeing and hearing. For many people, those things consist of the same media sources: YouTube, Google News and TV ads.

It’s a sobering reality, but best to limit your circle of interaction to those who have varied influences. Else you’ll never get to hear any cracky tales.

    You miss the point.

Chrome is about to kick Firefox off my Windows system (I’m a firm linux user, but I need Windows for the german tax system). The omnibox is irrelevant.

What is relevant, however, is that Chrome is freaking fast, and notably faster than FF3 in web applications that I use every day. And this alone makes it worth the install.

@martin no I don’t miss the point, I use FF because of the plugins not speed, if I wanted speed I would just wget the pages

DaveN: yeah, or use Chrome. ;)

I don’t think I’ve got any plugins installed in FF. Plus, I can spell.

Dave, since when is wget ECMAscript-aware? Is this just an incredibly stupid comment or are you trolling your own blog?

@donny: That guy doesn’t have a clue what he is talking about. Did you see his page before he posted about being contacted? He used the trademarked Chrome logo as the official favicon for his site, stuck the Google logo right next to his title in the header, stole a big part of the launch blog text (written in the first person by a member of the Chrome team) as his About page with no attribution or indication that it wasn’t his own, and used the official comic (released under a license that doesn’t allow modification) with his own text as the intro, without so much as mentioning that the site was unofficial. Many comments left in early posts show that lots of people were confused and thought it was an official site run by the Chrome developers, and he did nothing to correct them.

He wasn’t doing a good thing, he was confusing everyone visiting his site into thinking it was official.

absolutely ..if u need speed then u need to use chrome ..if u want all the plugins then u need to use ff …But soon google will get a solution for that

I agree, chrome tends to be faster than firefox. However, it will draw up competition with the arrival of Mozilla’s new browser.

    Cheers
