Ok, in the last year I have run

a) my own ad system
b) link to my own sites
c) links to friends sites
d) adsense

so what should I do next and what options are open to me ..

Adbrite well that’s Interstitial I didn’t like that
Text Links Ads or TextLinkBrokers or something like that, but Matt doesn’t like that

I want to find a way to make money off my blog so give me some ideas, I Hate the fact it just sits here getting 1000′s of people a day and not making any money from it .. or do I just take site sponsors or sell the site off ..

what the hell would you do ?

I’d go for a page detailing links to software/packages that you use, and have them up as affiliate links. You’re providing a service for free, and making some money from it. Sounds good to me :p

If it’s any consolation (which I’m pretty sure it’s not) you could revel in the fact that you keep a whole lot of us thoroughly entertained on a regular basis :-)

I hear Adult Friend Finder has a great affiliate program. You might want to try that or maybe porn links? Everyone knows the search community is mostly populated by sex addicts.

Get your own sponsors. Forget the ad networks, just get your own sponsor directly.

Hey Dave. Take a look at Performancing Partners new blog ad network. Darren from Problogger.net is using them and gives them a thumbs up.

I’ve been advertising over at ProBlogger through Performancing and if you added their blog ads, I would probably advertise here as well.

Also, if you are looking for any good affiliate programs I know where you can find them. ;-)

what about a “daven wisdom” members area, where you post sporadic tips, exclusive tool access etc. recurring membership of say $5 per month. signup 1000 members, its a $5k a month recurring income for what you already do for free. obviously this income is compounded as additional signups occur on a month by month basis.

i should imagine 4 tips a month would be good. this allows you to take on the title: daven weekly wisdom warehouse… or you could even plump for something snappier -

join daven’s with-it weekly wisdom warehouse, without it your w*nk

Personally I think you’d retain the ‘professional’ ethic you have on the blog (apart from all the swearing) by going for a site sponsor.

There are alternative ad networks, such as projectwonderful.com, although this seems to be aimed more at web comics and the like.

SEOBlack hat is trying to charge $100 per month to be part of a private forum where all the good info is released.

You could package up some of your automated tools, put some form of validation code that needs to talk to your server to keep working and rent them out for $100-1000 per month with instructions on how to use it. There might be a lot of niches that you havent throught of that many others could target.

Also why dont you sell a copy of all of your blog posts from the very begining in a PDF book, I would pay $10-20 for this to save me digging through the site

Make them banner ads, or nofollow them. Google shows nofollow links in backlink checks, so they may even pass PageRank. One of the reasons was to let Google know that you are not affiliated with a nofollow link.

Whatever you do do not 302 redirect hem, cause that triggers other ailments.

Links = Traffic and Branding. You do not even need Google rankings to get tons of traffic and conversions, although it is an added bonus.

It would be wiser if Google just stopped counting sitewides and treated it as a single link or null it out, rather than considering hurting businesses and the economy.

    Nice reading here DaveN!

I’d have to agree with Peter, why not open it up to readers of your blog, I’m sure there’s a few of them that would really like to sponsor it.

This way too, you could have greater control over how the ads are presented on your blog and maybe even learn to build a different kind of ad delivery system for blogs similar to Battelle’s Federated Media company.

The good news is that you are probably going to rank well for “monetarising” due to the link to this from the “Ok, looking for a site Sponsor” post.
