Why doesn’t the Adsense section targeting work for me … any why does the Keyword in URL play such a big part !!
Has you may have seen I Have been playing with Adsense on David Naylor, so I have tested the adsense section targeting on the Xbox 360 post below.
The HTML tags to emphasize a page section take the following format:
But look at the results..
Home Page with section targeting around the contents of the Xbox post

when I go the the actual post I get :

so section targeting either doesn’t work, or is stuck a small factor it makes little or no difference at all.

Yeah, I’ve been playing with that too and indeed doesn’t seem to be working. I have a lyrics website and i used them to mark only the band names. The results were a mess and things got better only when i removed the tags
I always thought the section targeting wasn’t designed to help on a multi-topic, regularly updated blog homepage as the media bot only crawls the content weekly/bi weekly rate? So there’ll always be a good week - two week lag between your top post on eggs, when you last post was on bacon.
So you either be so niche on your posts that AdSense is roughly on topic, or, get ignore the lag…
The X Box page was a new page so the media bot crawled it quickly as soon as a request was made from the AdSense block, where as the blog front page didn’t get that instant crawl. AdSense is so sucky for blogs like this.
Personally, section targeting worked for my personal blog as it was getting lots of irrelevant ads based on my non-word URL. Now they are nearly always about the content.
I guess this is why more and more people are moving to other methods.

When I look at the permanent URL for that post, I get Google ads for Google ads ;-)
Probably has to do with the fact that AdSense Targetting (the name of this post) is written at the top, as the link to the previous post.
Section targetting has never ever ever worked for me…. and i have done a lot of sites with need for it :)
I’ve been playing aroudn with this and noticed the title seems to play a part
